the best way to get B3D's into 3dsmax is with Ultimate Unwrap 3D. That has a custom 3dsmax import/export import plugin and has good B3D support.

It really depends, recent tests showed them to be pretty close on my system. GL v's DX9. I had some probs with older ATI drivers a few months back which seems to improved recently.

B3D pipeline is the best B3D exporter by far and it works with Max8 just fine so long as you have the max 6 patch installed. Would be nice if someone could port the pipeline extensions over, then you could use 3dsmax as your world editor since the exporter supports instances, animated lights fog etc...

I prefer Ogre because of its fantastic material system, and world/level editing from inside 3dsmax. Of course the Pro version of Ofusion for commercial projects costs money but its an awesome tool, and there's a free community edition for non commercial use. IF your willing to drom Linux which isn't really feasible for a real commercial game, then you can always use PhysX from Ageia. That is free for commercial games on all computer platforms but not consoles.
