Getting individual groups from a Milkshape model.

A .MS3D (milkshake) model can be split into different groups. When rendered in irrlicht, it draws all groups at once. Is there anyway to tell irrlicht to only draw groups I tell it to?

I'm not sure, but I guess you can't edit the vertices of an animated mesh...
at least I didn't manage to edit them, I had no problems with static meshes tho...
also I guess it's pretty hard to remove vertices from a mesh because you destroy faces this way and you'll have to build new once ...

Implementing LOD

I'm trying to implement LOD for my animated models -- I'm still somewhat new to irrlicht so if there is already a class for this, please let me know.

Basically I'm taking an animated mesh (via IAnimatedMesh) and creating several LOD levels for it. The LOD levels are stored in an array, so for ...

I don't know that this will solve your problem as your description of it seems like some other things may be going on.

I just wanted to say, I had the exact same problem as kulesz did. My code, WITHOUT ANY CHANGES, worked fine when I compiled and linked with irrlicht 1.6.1, but BROKE when I ...

... you either have to write your own material/shader or copy the alpha mask manually into the texture.

So how does one go about accessing the texture pixel by pixel?

slavik262, thanks for the info, that was extremely helpful. :D

EDIT: So I decided to go the shader route.
Unfortunately, I'm ...

Image Masking OpenGL

I'm wondering... Does irrlicht support any type of image masking? What I mean is, can you take 2 images, one is the diffuse map and the other is the alpha map, and blend them to get a transparent image.

Take a look at NeHe's masking demo (it's at the very bottom). It basically does what I'm talking ...

You don't. You render the terrain to a render target texture with a material that outputs depth as brightness (Just use the Z coordinate of the transformed vertex / max cam dist).

EDIT: If you are really lazy you can look at my water example in XEffects, I am just trying to tell you how to do it ...

You can render the terrain to a depth buffer and fade out the water when the depth is small
Sounds good to me. So, how does one go about accessing the depth buffer in irrlicht?

best way to draw terrain and water?

I'd like to add terrain and water to my game. The way I add terrain is via the usual irrlicht addTerrainSceneNode(blah, blah). The way I add water is I create a flat plane, give it a water texture, make it the same size as the terrain, and stick it somewhere up and down the y-axis.

The problem is ...

Point node at position.

Say I have a vector position.

How could I get my node to "point" at that position?

I've been trying to figure this out for a while now with no luck.

Is there a method in irrlicht that would do this for me?

Culling and scene management.

Two quick Questions.

#1 Are nodes culled automatically in irrlicht?
#2 Does irrlicht have any type of octree, or quadtree support?

(SOLVED) How to disable z-depth on node.

Say my player is holding a gun, like in an FPS game, how can I disable it's z-depth so it won't clip through walls when I get to close to them?
