I think the collision sphere falls through the triangles in the terrain if its too big When i started with the first irr terrainnode i had this 'fall through' behavior. I came to the conclusion that if i scaled the terrain mesh, then i would have this problem.. I dont know if thats the whole story?...

Which file format is better...direct X (.x) or wavefront (.obj)? Mike i fear that it is a real problem
In the FX-demo i have 11.. fps
Just by commenting the waterscenenode out of the file i get 57 fps.
Irr's 'animated textures as water' is simply -very- resourse demanding.

my -gues- would be that u have reduced setting for ur graphic card specific on oGl.
Look for setting like 'render for max quality' versus 'render for max efficiency'
chose max quality

How does the lightmap in the demo render?
Is that also ugly?

If not it is obvious an other problem

u need to UVmap the textures on ur model
If u search on my old post i wrote a litle 'tut' on how to do that with the freeware 'UVmapper' and 3ds files
U mention MAX and i'm sure that MAX has inbuild UV-mapper-tools. I have no expierence with those (to expensive:(
