Attempting a MMORPG for your first program, you are setting yourself up for failure... as you already said in your first post. Start small (same type as the RPG, just bare bones)in what whould make you happy, and yet expand your programming knowledge. Then go back and attempt a MMORPG. Alot of prog...

I stopped and did a double take the moment I read "MMORPG". I hope you learned a lesson from your failure. That said make something YOU want to play. Do you have a game you play a lot ? Want to improve it ? Want a sequel ? Well you are a game developer now, use your power to make one. EDI...

Code::Blocks is a good option for both Windows and Linux development, although I prefer Visual Studio for windows development Ok, I usually learn code best by looking at code examples and re-writing them. I have learned PHP very extensively and code examples helped me out a lot. I will take a look ...

Where should I start?

I have not been on this forum for a while, but last year I starting using irrlicht. I got a team of 20 together and we attempted to build a 'l33t' MMORPG, needless to say we failed in the end. We put hard work into story and game content, and then realized that programming it would be a mammoth task...

This is my first update for a while and I have to say that an MMORPG is definitely not a good idea for a small indie team to develop. My team has basically fallen apart and I may have to just scrap the project. Here are some of my thoughts and analysis on my project. - Developing the game content li...

We are developing a system which sends what 3D models the client should load from the server, the login GUI is also under construction and today we plan to add codes for each type of item.
For example 0.1 for a potion.

Development for the client is going well so far, here are some of the core things which we have achieved: - Basic character movement using the WASD keys. - Camera follows the character. - Inventory appears when 'i' is pressed. - Basic GUI menu. - Basic NPC system, NPC waves at the character if it co...

Also, a serious suggestion. If you really want to make a game like that with Irrlicht, be ready to modify any aspect of the engine in its very core. Or else, switch to a complete game engine with network support, like Torque. Because Irrlicht currently lacks (by default, anyway) some of the feature...

I am web developer and project lead of the team. I have lead smaller projects like 2D RPGs before. If you think you can complete this project t...

We have sorted out the network libraries and other vital things required for running the server. We are using enet and POCO. Our client programmers are currently building the basic system and making it communicate with the server. We have now got a 17th team member; another C++ client programmer. We...

I think you will find my team have programming knowledge, so I suggest you go and find something to do, because you clearly have too many spare hours if you have time to come on a topic like this and post that image.
