Using Irrlicht 0.14 in Dev C++?

Hi there! I just tried to add irrlicht to Dev C++. but I couldn't find the Devcpp library folder. So I used the gcc library, but when I try to run the example from the Dev C++ tutorial, it just opens a command window and then closes.

What am I doing wrong?

I've used DeleD in the past for simple things. But I absolutely HATE the way it positions objects. I'd rather just drag them around instead of entering in a direction to move it in and hoping I get the correct distance.

Quark problems...

Hello! I'm currently working on a small tour-like program. Basically, it's just a simple project to learn the basics of Irrlicht. The "game" will have a huge open castle where you can explore. I plan to test different effects and such with it. I want to use Quark as my level editor, but I ...

You could try using Giles or something to lightmap your level. It adds shadows. You can't change the shadows in the game, however.

Best language to use?

Hello! I've been looking at Irrlicht as an engine to use in my game, but I don't know which language would be best. I have alot of experience in VB.NET, yet the current Irr.NET version doesn't have the features I want. I don't know much C++, but I know that the C++ version has the most features. So ...

Hi there. Thanks for the answer. I didn't know DMF loading was built into 0.10.0. I'll try that code then. :)

Looks to me like you are stealing Irrlicht and naming it something else (vdbengine).

Those seem to require the Quake CD before you can use them. I haven't tried them, but that's what I have guessed from reading documentation.

I dont have an answer to your question, but that is a good idea. I never thought of making your own classes.

Perhaps I will try this soon. It gets hard for me to read C++ once everything gets going. :P

I highly doubt that you can do this with Irrlicht, but I'm sure there are libraries our there that allow you to do something like that. Or perhaps there is a function in the windows API to take a screenshot of the active window. Try search on the MSDN library (www.msdn.com/library) or Google. :)

I put the .h files in the Irrlicht include folder and imported the .cpp file into my DevC++ project and put: CDMFLoader DMFLoader = CDMFLoader(driver); smgr->addExternalMeshLoader(&DMFLoader); IAnimatedMesh* mesh = smgr->getMesh(level1.dmf); smgr->addOctTreeSceneNode(mesh); but it gives me this ...

Okay, I put it in the wrong place. It works okay now. I also had to change core::vector3df(0,50,0)); to core::vector3df(0,100,0)); becuase the camera kept bouncing up and down. But now, when I go up a hill, the camera bounces slightly and i slide back down. Would it be possible to make it not do that?

Images are distorted!

I just got the crosshair code working, but if I use a BMP with any other color than black and white, the crosshair comes out looking distorted in Irrlicht. It also does this with my logo BMP, but I took that out for now. Anyway, I have this crosshair picture: http://www.dark-infinity.com/crosshairgi...
