getting there
Hey guys, Yeah - sorry, I think a week was perhaps a little optimistic. It's going well, I've implemented selection and a camera/mouse system which I think works quite well. I need to rig together actually moving objects around and a simple file format, and then I'll have a basic framework which I c...

Haha! Thought that would get asked sooner or later ;) Well, I hope to have a basic version up and running in about a week. To my mind, the first stage is actually the most fiddly (cameras, node picking, moving stuff around etc) - all the other stuff such as markers, moving multiple objects and so on...

Yes - I intend to implement some sort of system for dividing it up so that only local areas are loaded as the player moves around, in the sort of stepping-stone manner you mentioned. That may well be part of the LoadOutdoorFile function which you import into your own project, where you can specify t...

That's the idea
do i place the tree's or fences or what ever with a gui like drag & drop? Yeah - that's the idea. Using Irrlicht's GUI stuff, obviously. You spawn your objects and then move them around with a 3D widget (like in Maya, for instance), until you're happy with where they are. The other nice thing a...

Large outdoor world compositing tool
hope this is the right forum for this - I know it's technically a project announcement, but I'd like to pick your brains about how to do it before I get stuck in ;) There's been a lot of interest in making large, outdoor worlds with irrlicht, for which bsp's aren't really appropriate. As I myself am...

using heightmaps
Hiya, I've managed to create a terrain by loading up a heightmap from an image file, but is there a way to specify how large each segment should be? I want to end up with a large but more angular terrain, rather than a smaller, incredibly detailed terrain. Is there a way to do this? Or should I just...

Texturing Worlds
Sorry if this is a bit of a dumb question, but how do you load texturing information for worlds (ie terrain, levels etc) into Irrlicht? I've made some stuff in maya, and happily loaded the .obj into Irrlicht, but what's the best way go about texturing it? (as objectfiles only contain geometry, it co...
