IrrEdit + Animated Mesh (3ds)

Hey everyone,

I am trying to import an animated mesh into IrrEdit.

I am using 3ds Max, and have setup my character and rigged it with standard Max bones. I am also using the Skin modifier.

I select both mesh and bones and export as a 3ds file. When I import the 3ds file as an animated mesh into IrrEdit, there is no animation. Am I missing something?

Well, probably the animation, but Irrlicht does not support 3ds animations so that won't work.

What format should I be using if I have an animated mesh? I will need some models to just be an animated mesh, and some to use bones. What is the best supported format for IrrLicht/IrrEdit?

.x format /directx/ suports sceletal and bone animations.

I agree, X is the format with the broadest tool support and well working Irrlicht loader.

Thank you. I was thinking of doing .x format. Is there an exporter for 3ds max to export in .x format?

Yeah there is the "Panda" exporter

Yes, Panda is a good exporter. You must check some of export options to get working animations in Irrlicht.
