Anyone else have trouble signing up for the Newton forums?

Post by dwmitch »

I followed a link to a tutorial thread in the Newton forum, and it's set up so that you can't even view threads unless you're a member.

I tried signing up that night and the first attempt said that my e-mail address had been banned. I thought there must have been an error, because from what I can tell from the copyright dates on the home page the site's only been around since '03, and I've had my e-mail address since 1999. Under the assumption that there was a problem with the system, I tried again this past Friday, with no luck.

I have not tried signing up for the forum before this month, so I couldn't have already been a member and done something to get banned, and a previous user of my e-mail address couldn't have gotten the address banned because I had it before the site was launched.

Knowing that it wasn't a punitive ban, therefore not being as much of an offence as acting up on the forums, being banned, and signing up again, I set up a new e-mail address to sign up with. Same message.

I sent an e-mail to the administrators asking if I had to be pre-approved to sign up but I have yet to receive a reply.

Has anyone else had this kind of trouble, and how do you go about signing up for the forums if even a two minute old e-mail address is banned?

Sorry for the bump, but I still haven't received a response from the Newton forums, there were no clues on the home page, and I couldn't find anything on this forum.

The only two things I can figure are that either my IP address is in a blocked range (which doesn't explain why it says my e-mail address is banned) or you can't use a yahoo address to sign up.

Has anyone here with a yahoo address been able to register? And if it is a blocked IP is there any way to get the administration to make some alterations so I can sign up? Otherwise I end up banned from a potentially useful forum because some idiot with an IP similar to mine got the both of us, and anyone else using the same ISP, if I understand correctly, banned.

I don't know about your case specifically, but in the forum there are a few threads about people who have problem signing in. All uncommented so far. Best you contact them yourself about this via info at newtondynamics.com. The more frustrated users they hear, the sooner they change their policy.

Such a moronic move, to not allow unregistered users to read the forum...
Newton is an nice physics engine but Julio can be such a twerp at times, it really spoils the fun with the engine itself.

That's the address I mailed to, but I haven't gotten a response (checked both inbox and bulk folder). If my address is banned for some reason it's likely that it didn't even reach their inbox.
