yep, actually, with the x format (after all was designed for games) can do for lots of stuff for character animation and levels...
And I am happy to tell you that i am reading in many gaming comunities it is becoming a widely used format; Even more, Gamestudio and Darkbasic pro (comercial softwares that have a paid team behind) tool much more time to get a working x file import..indeed, last thing I did check they don't import weights!!! How can...if the main advantage for artists about x file is that one...!
And I guess they just did not added it as is more complex. I have been informed by good coders about that (in general c++ and dx)
Is not that I am a MS supported or something.I'm an artist, and way more supporter of free ways, free tools, and most of all making artist life easier...or just making possible the conversions.
I read DBPro either supported weights, but that could be a wrong post of a user. Recently, Blitz3d added weights, a long cried petition from b3d users, and now some are realizing its power.
Besides...maybe *.x format of dx8.x does only support two materials overlayed, but what I read is dx9 version of x format (all the time I don't care about ms dx, but the *.x file format, which seems can be loaded as well in opengl in Irrlitch, deosn't it?) does support many materials overlayed. (multitexturing) I read in Panda exporter last update, support for dx9 multitexturing of more than 2...
Dont expect that happen with all exporters just now, but at least some will do. (Max 6 already) Blender is done by founders and comunity, it probably will get there.
I fully agree here...that part is covered more than in any other engine...(obj, ms3d, x, tga...wow..BSP keeps meaning issues (well, a bsp for hl is being done by a user, and that'd be interesting, but Niko do not have to care about it..

)) , and seems better to keep adding needed stuff to a game engine... (ai, etc... I suppose.I don't code)
But all this post of mine is a bit redundant, sorry.
Just to point you that the decission of choosing x format was very correct; I am reading everywhere engines are picking it...

hey, why not grab interesting things here and there... (like x format)
