I just cant help myself when i think that only americans would think like this. Of course, i'd be mean to almost half of america if i said that, but since the majority(and the judges) voted for a total idiot, i dont care. I was laughing my a*s of when i heard him say 'Almost all our import comes from foreign nations'. Does he have an infinite number of monkeys that writes his speeches? :D
If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Heh. I dont know whether to take that as an insult or as a compliment to my textual acting skills.

Back on topic, are there any programmers at all here interested? Are there any friends of programmers here that think their friends are interested? My friend and I can not do this alone (or at least not in any reasonable time frame)

maybe if you actually thought this out and tried.
it's only foriegners that sit around till the poop gets really deep don't forget hitler didn't rise here and we don't wait till they have the surrounding countries before we kick some ass.

fucken liberal learn something gdia!
Luben wrote:but since the majority(and the judges) voted for a total idiot,i dont care.

ok this really shows how much you know because if you knew anything of hot topic statistics then you would know that only 1/3 of americans actually vote and you really can't blame them can you?

not to mention americans are mobile our economy and dog eat dog way of life causes us to constently move around in search of work. which would explain why most people CAN'T vote because you have to be somewhere at least an entire year before you can vote. 6 months registered before you can vote.

Luben wrote:I was laughing my a*s of when i heard him say 'Almost all our import comes from foreign nations'. Does he have an infinite number of monkeys that writes his speeches? :D
a lot of americas imports do come from foriegn nations.. one thing to remember is that your opinion effects not just americas but your country and all others as well... can't we all just get along? you say one bad thing and then an american says something back.. next thing ya know americans are all stupid.. yet I'd be willing to bet your country is one of our allies so what does that make you?

a lot of americans like bush and a lot more don't. you could say the same about almost every great leader in history not that I'm saying bush is great I'm the latter.

to stereo type an entire country you obviously know very little about is very ignorent to say the LEAST. tell somebody who cares like your arrogent biggot friends not here man. and sure as hell not with me around.

this was the wrong place and I want the original poster to accept my apology for continueing this DULL and overly talked about OFF TOPIC.

I was only kidding around I think this project is A+ even if I think the story could use a bit of work I'm sure nothing is written in stone.

john kerry was worse... republicans vote... old people get confused... poop happens.. life is not perfect nor you or america or your country or ANYTHING. deal with it.

and yes bush has an infinite amount of monkeys but you already knew that. so does your leader. wake up to YOUR situtation cause you can't vote here.

ALL imports are from foreign countries. Unless we're mailing food to ourselves. -.-

But, on topic, sounds really good and can't wait for any sort of previews.

I'm in the process of writing the missions (text not code... we're not that far yet). He'res missions 1, 2 and 3. Note that within missions 1-3, there are 8 different mission possibilities.

Mission 1: Operation Smokehouse

Location: Western Iran

Weather: Sunny, arid

Structures: Headquarters, Geothermal Plant, Supply Depot, Barracks

Units: Lt Infantry, Medium Infantry, Grenadier, Rover, Recon Rover, Contractor Truck, Fuel Truck, VTOL Transport

Enemy Factions: Unidentified Terrorists, Iranian National Army

Allied Factions: US

Back story: Before and during the conflict in 2019, the Iranians were producing deadly chemical weapons. We had thought that the UN Inspectors had cleaned it all up… until now. Intelligence has located a chemical weapons plant left over, and it appears to be in the hands of Islamic militants, not aligned to any particular nation. Their numbers are relatively small, and they’ve had the plant for a while without making any threats, so we must assume they are part of a larger organization with bigger plans. The Iranian government has also located this plant, and satellites show that they are preparing a force to secure the plant.

Insertion: US A3 Abrams tanks and Rappahannock Helicopters will clear out any heavily armored opposition. Then, a detachment of light infantry and rovers will be sent in via VTOL Transport. Should the light infantry be killed, you will be granted a pair of Contractor trucks in order to build a small base to complete the mission.

Mission: Secure the chemical plant, eliminating all insurgent forces guarding area. If the Iranian National Army poses a threat, you are authorized to engage them.

Objectives:
- Secure the plant and hold it against all opposition (Primary)
- Eliminate all insurgents (Primary)
- Do not let the enemies take any weapon materials out of the plant (Secondary)
- Eliminate Iranian threat (Tertiary)

Tips: Hit the enemy hard and fast. If a chemical spill occurs, your light infantry are vulnerable. Use medium infantry and grenadiers when they become available.

Outcomes:
Primary and Secondary objectives met: Continue to Mission 2A
Primary objectives met, but secondary objectives not met: Continue to Mission 2B
Primary and Secondary objectives not met: Replay mission
(Tertiary Objective irrelevant)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 2A: Operation Robin Hood

Location: Coast of Somalia

Weather: Sunny, arid

Structures: Headquarters, Geothermal Plant, Supply Depot, Barracks, Motor Pool, AG-307, Pillbox

Units: Light Infantry, Medium Infantry, Grenadier, JAVELIN, Marksman, Officer, Medic, Rover, Recon Rover, Contractor Truck, Fuel Truck, Amphibious APC, Escort, Tomahawk Tank, UAV, LCAC, Destroyer, AEGIS Cruiser, Warship

Enemy Factions: Somali Militants

Allied Factions: UN

Back Story: Intel is doing some digging based upon what we’ve turned up at the chemical plant. It will take them a while to come up with anything solid, and in the meantime, you are needed elsewhere. Our relief efforts in Somalia have run into serious problems. Hostile stinger sites have popped up all over the region, and have shot down several VTOLs full of relief supplies. In addition, these sites are preventing us from getting UAVs into the area, so intel is limited.

Insertion: It is obvious that an aerial insertion is out of the question, so you’ll have to make an amphibious landing. The beach should be generally unguarded, so make landfall fast. Do not let your guard down, the enemy will likely present themselves as you make your way inland.

Mission: You need to get the food back in the hands of the starving villagers, and secure the air lanes so relief operations can resume. Locate the crash site and the food supplies, and then load the food onto your contractor trucks. Take the food to the food distribution center, and then clear out all hostile missile sites to open the air lanes once again.

Objectives:
- Locate the crash site (Secondary)
- Locate the relief supplies (Primary)
- Get at least 3 contractor trucks with relief supplies to the food distribution center (Primary)
- Destroy all anti-air sites (Primary)

Tips: It is recommended that before you go after the supplies, you use your contractor trucks to set up a base of operations.

Outcomes:
Primary objectives met: Continue to Mission 3A
Primary objectives not met: Continue to Mission 3B
(Secondary objective irrelevant)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 2B: Operation Treasure Hunt

Location: Mashhad, Iran

Weather: Clear, Arid

Structures: Headquarters, Geothermal Plant, Supply Depot, Barracks, Motor Pool, Sandbags, AG-307, Pillbox

Units: Lt. Infantry, Med. Infantry, Grenadier, JAVELIN, Marksman, Medic, Officer, Rover, Recon Rover, Contractor Truck, Fuel Truck, Amphibious APC, Tomahawk Tank, UAV, VTOL Transport

Enemy Factions: Iranian National Army, Unidentified Terrorists

Allied Factions: None

Back Story: Although (X) truck(s) carrying chemical weapons got away, the raid was not all for nothing. Satellites have tracked the (X) truck(s) moving east, and (they/it) (have/has) stopped in a city called Mashhad.

Insertion: VTOL Transports will drop in your first wave just outside of the city. It is then up to you to build a base and move your troops into the city to complete the mission.

Mission: Move into the city and locate and secure the (X) truck(s). Possible locations where they may be hidden are the industrial warehouses, the Stadium, the Airport, or the Iranian Military Base. When you find the chemical weapons, clear the area and hold the location for 2 minutes until a VTOL Transport can come in to pick the weapons up. Don’t expect this to only be an offensive battle. Once Iranian soldiers and even civilians see you attacking their city, they will most likely try to bring the fight to you, so plan your base defenses accordingly. Most importantly, DO NOT let the chemical weapons become damaged. We can not afford to have innocent lives on our hands.

Objectives:
- Locate and secure all chemical weapons (Primary)
- Hold each chemical weapon for 2 minutes until a VTOL Transport arrives. (Primary)
- Do not allow innocent civilians to come to harm (Secondary)

Tips:
- Most of the supplies are located within the city, which means your contractor trucks will most likely come under attack repeatedly. Assign some escorts to guard each truck. Their armament may be somewhat light, but they can always match the speed of the contractor trucks, and they’ll never fall behind unlike the heavier tanks.
- When you clear out an area, make sure to eliminate any anti air rockets or missiles nearby. They could shoot down the VTOL Transports, and if the Transports are already carrying the Chemical weapons, the crash could cause a leak.

Outcomes:
Primary and Secondary Objectives met: Continue to mission 3C
Primary Objectives met, Secondary Objectives not met: Continue to mission 3D
Primary Objectives not met: Continue to mission 4E

(X) = how many trucks escaped in mission 1

------------------------------------------------------

Mission 3A: Operation Irene 2

Location: Mogadishu, Somalia

Weather: Clear, Dusk

Structures: None

Units: Med Infantry, Grenadier, JAVELIN, Marksman, Medic, Officer, Rover, VTOL, VTOL Gunship, UAV

Enemy Factions: Somali Militants

Allied Factions: None

Back Story: It’s in our best interest to keep the momentum going from your last victory. To do this, we’ve tracked the enemy’s ringleaders to the Somali capital, Mogadishu. We’ve identified three possible locations.

Insertion: Your forces will be inserted via VTOL Transport, but the possibility of enemy RPGs is high, so the VTOLs will only bring you into the edge of the city. You’ll have to proceed by Rover or on foot from there. Reinforcements will become available periodically, and will be dropped in by VTOL, but make sure that the LZ is clear of RPGs before calling in reinforcements, otherwise, they may never make it down in one piece.

Mission: Take a strike team in to the three locations: the mosque, the Marketplace, and the city square. Eliminate all hostiles at a location before moving on. You are authorized to engage any threats on the streets, but be sure to avoid civilian casualties as much as possible.

Objectives:
- Reach and clear out the Mosque (Primary)
- Reach and clear out the Marketplace (Primary)
- Reach and clear out the City Square (Primary)
-Avoid Civilian Casualties (Secondary)

Tips: Be sure to use all of your Infantry units’ specialties to their full potential. Occasionally stop to regroup and reorganize your units. VTOL Gunships will be able to suppress targets for you. Use them, and your reinforcements, wisely.

Outcomes:
Primary objectives met: Continue to Mission 4A-1 or 4A-2 (Player’s Choice)
Primary objectives not met: Continue to Mission 3B

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 3B: Operation Gridlock

Location: Mogadishu, Somalia

Weather: Sunny, Clear

Structures: None

Units: Med. Infantry, Grenadier, Marksman, Medic, Combat Engineer, Officer, Fuel Truck, Amphibious APC, Tomahawk Tank

Enemy Factions: Somali Militants

Allied Factions: None

Back Story: Opposition in Somalia is growing, thanks to your previous failures. It’s time to show the militants once and for all who has the bigger guns.

Insertion: Our forces will push their way into the city on the ground, and will proceed to the objectives in this manner.

Mission: Use the Tomahawk Tanks to push your way through heavy opposition, destroying enemy strongholds at the Mosque and the Marketplace. Then take the tanks to the City Square and hold there until reinforcements arrive. The Tanks will have a psychological impact on the enemy. Keep them intact at all costs, or our intimidation plans may backfire. Be aware that the enemy will throw everything they have at the Tanks, possibly including suicide bombers. Because of this, you have no ROE restrictions. Engage whoever poses a potential threat to your men.

Objectives:
- Reach and destroy the Mosque (Secondary)
- Reach and clear the Marketplace (Secondary)
- Reach and hold the City Square until reinforcements arrive (Primary)
- Keep at least 1 tank alive until reinforcements arrive (Primary)

Tips: Be constantly aware of the fuel trucks. You’ll need it to keep your tanks going, but remember that it’s very vulnerable. If the fuel trucks explode, it may weaken your tanks enough for them to fall as well.

Outcomes:
Primary Objectives met, but Secondary Objectives not met: Continue to Mission 4B
Primary and Secondary Objectives met: Continue to Mission 4C
Primary and Secondary Objectives not met: Retry Mission

------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 3C: Operation Orange Sun

Location: Tehran, Iran

Weather: **NUCLEAR FALLOUT HAZARD**

Structures: Lift Pad

Units: Med. Infantry, Grenadier, JAVELIN, Marksman, Medic, Officer, Combat Engineer, UAV, VLF Fighter, VTOL Transport, VTOL Gunship

Enemy Factions: Unidentified Terrorists

Allied Factions: None

Back Story: Now that the terrorists are without their weapons of mass destruction, they will undoubtedly try to find other WMDs. Halfway through the war with Iran, US planes unknowingly bombed trucks carrying nuclear weapons through the center of Tehran, the Iranian capital. The nukes went critical, killing millions and vaporizing the center of the city. The rest of the city is covered in a blanket of radiation, which is why very few have tried to return to the city. It is believed that some of the missiles are still intact, and that the terrorists will try and acquire the missiles.

Insertion: The radiation makes it hard for us to get anything near the scene. We have, however, secured a section of the Tehran airport. You’ll have access to several air units, and some elite infantry already on the scene. You have limited numbers, though, so manage your troops well. There will be NO reinforcements.

Mission: The terrorists will try to get the missiles out of the city any way possible. The only way to stop them is to kill all terrorists in the city. Since the terrorists don’t have sophisticated protective suits like we do, they’ll try to get what they want as quickly as possible. Secure any surviving nuclear missiles, and then keep the terrorists from taking them. We’ve estimated how long it will take for the terrorists to die of radiation. If you haven’t killed them by then, expect a large rush near the end of the time limit.

Objectives:
- Prevent the terrorists from taking any nuclear payload out of the city (Primary)

Tips:
- Your medics and engineers are the key to success. Your medics can be used to heal troops on the ground, and engineers can speed up the repair of aircraft when they land.
- Remember that once a soldier’s armor is compromised, he will be susceptible to the same hazards as unprotected infantry.

Outcomes:
Primary Objectives met: Continue to mission 4D
Primary Objectives not met: Continue to mission 4E

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 3D: Operation Thermopylae

Location: Central Iran

Weather: Morning, Arid

Structures: Headquarters, Geothermal Plant, Supply Depot, Barracks, Motor Pool, Service Station, Sandbags, Walls, AG-307, Pillbox, Bunker, SAM Site

Units: Lt. Infantry, Med. Infantry, Grenadier, JAVELIN, Marksman, Medic, Engineer, Officer, Rover, Recon Rover, Contractor Truck, Fuel Truck, Amphibious APC, Escort, Tomahawk Tank, War Eagle Support Artillery

Enemy Factions: Iranian National Army

Allied Factions: None

Back Story: We didn’t think it was possible, but the Iranians are gearing up for an offensive, less than a few months after the war was officially “over”. We’ve spotted an Iranian tank division making its way across Dasht-e Kavir, a salt desert. Our best opportunity to stop them is at a small pass between two large mountains. After that, there’s nothing between them and the dozens of aid stations, refugee camps, and UN bases, which stand virtually unguarded.

Insertion: Your forces will already be waiting on the scene.

Mission: By any means necessary, stop that armored division. Do not let them through the pass, or they’ll wreak havoc on the defenseless camps beyond.

Objectives:
- Destroy all Iranian forces (Primary)
- Do not let a single Iranian tank through the pass (Primary)

Tips:
- Your engineers can lay mines. Spring a trap for the Iranian tanks and they wont know what hit them.
- Beware that the Iranians will have anti tank helicopters. Its best to keep your tanks near some anti air weapon such as a SAM site, otherwise your tanks will be gone before you know it.

Outcomes:
- Primary objectives met: Continue to mission 4D
- Primary objectives not met: Continue to mission 4F

what you need to do is make a small webpage about all this..

personally I wouldn't reveal that much about a potentially commercial game project of my own.

because game companies compete and because it disillusions your audience. not to mention few will read through all that. sure some may find it entertaining thats why you should have a webpage like other game companies do.

I think people are more interested in release dates cost estimations and watching the whole project evolve rather then min by min updates on the entire story line and mission layout.

it shows dedication but then again so does a webpage.

A followup note to say that I still think this project displays the best combination of challenging + achievable of any that I've yet seen announced here.
Please upload candidate patches to the tracker.

I bet a lot of you thought this project fell through, seeing as I havent posted in over a month, but that is hardly the case. To prove it, here is an image of the first unit modeled for the game. Many more to come.

Image

Also, a feature not listed before:

Close Quarters Battle (CQB) is a type of fighting in which small units engage the enemy with personal weapons at very short range, even to the point of hand-to-hand combat. In the typical CQB scenario, the attackers try a very fast, violent takeover of a vehicle or structure controlled by the defenders, who usually have no easy way to withdraw. Because enemies, hostages/civilians, and fellow operators can be closely intermingled, CQB demands a rapid assault and a precise application of lethal force. The operators need great proficency with their weapons, but also the ability to make split-second decisions in order to limit friendly casualties.

This will be simulated by individual unit and squad AI, but the player will need to make important command decisions including the following:

- Which entrance to use (front door, back door, rapel onto the roof, 2nd story window VIA ladder, etc.)

- How to clear the building (top down or bottom up)

- Entry method (Door breech, door breech with FRAG, Door breech with STUN (only available to certain units), normal entry (used when entering an unoccupied or friendly building))

- Thoroughness in clearing (Enter each room, Look in each room, hallways only)

- Defensive setup (defend exterior, defend interior, defend interior and exterior, deploy tactically (short ranged units will defend interior, long ranged units will deploy to the exterior), hide)

and more...

Update:

We've got some early screens of the first level of the demo. Some things are place holders. Some of these placeholders are obvious (the ships) and some are a little more subtle (the monotextured land). I'm pretty proud of how I got the water to turn out, although I'm not sure if I want to keep it that way and just animate waves, or whether I want to do some more to it.
