Gas Protest

Post by NicholasMag »

So this has nothing to do with Irrlicht, but I am seriously tired of paying $40 to fill my gas tank. And this is not spam, I really want to see alot more people take advantage of this. So im going to participate in this and am trying to spread the word. And why not try and make it national? Will put an even bigger dent into it.

On May 15th, everyone i know of will be protesting againts the High gas prices arising in the United Sates. So we ask if everyone to participate and not go to the gas station in protest of these prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are over 10 billion people in the United States, and the average car takes about 20 to 30 dollars to fill up.

If all citizens did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $750,000,000,000.00 out of the oil company's pockets for just a day. Please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and let's try to put a dent in the oil industry for one day.

If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldn't) repost this News on any major websites or your myspace profile and spread the word!

Post your comments or thoughts on this topic, i want to see what everyone thinks about it

My comment:

That is 3.7854118 litres for 3 dollars
It's 1.26180393 litre per dollar, or 0.792516154 dollars per litre.

That translates to 5.51 swedish crowns.

I know you probably don't know swedish, but hey, check this site
http://www.bensinpris.se/
You see the green boxes on the left side of that page? Those boxes in which there are numbers and dates? The dates are dates, and the other number, for example "10:29" is how many swedish crowns a litre costs in sweden, at the CHEAPEST place in the whole of sweden.

Hmm, lets see what google calculator says about the swedish/american gas ratio....
Wow, could you guess? It's 1:0.535471331. One american litre is equal to 0.535471331 swedish litres of gas.

I wonder why...

And that's the situation for almost every country in the world. Except for hte USA. The USA is in a different league of their own. And you propose a national protest for cheaper gas, when finally the americans gets a taste of the real _world_.

Have any idea?

(Read between the lines: F*ck! Americans are soo spoiled! (Environment terrorists! ;)))

...There are over 10 billion people in the United States...
Actually, there aren't even 300 million people in the US.

Also, gas companies don't care if you don't go May 15th, they know you'll be there sometimes before and many times after that day.

There are many other things you can do to save on gas, like buy more fuel efficient vehicles, or alternative fuel vehicles, participate in car pooling, etc.

Also, the email form of this is noted as a hoax/spam email as well, as an FYI...

Ok well maby lets not do it nationally, but i mean im not spoiled i do have a gas efficient car, but you see, the prices here are 3.30 a gallon, and are still continuing to rise.

But i do agree that americans are spoiled. Only reason i would say lets protest it because think about way back when the blacks protested againts the bus systems. It worked didnt it? And im sure if we did it once, alot more people would do it more often.

Now i do carpool, i carpool with my dad to work. And its kind of hard riding a bike to a field job that can be anywhere from 10-200 miles to get to work, then doing your job out in the field, then riding you bike all the way back? See i have a real job, and its still expensive as gently caress because i have to drive all those miles, and a bike isnt going to do me any good but get me fired.

And this really isnt spam/hoax because plenty of people in the valley i live in are acting on it. You can call that a hoax.

And the 300 million people, i just reposted what someone had told me, so it may be different. But still it will still hurt the oil company a tad bit, even if you go the day before or after, they are not gaining their daily amount which will hurt them is some way. Its like you not going to work for a day, no call no show, then it sets everything back a day or w/e because your not there to complete your job. Same kind of system works for everywhere else.

Just how i feel on the situation so please no one take this offensively. Because gas prices are going to continue to rise until something is done. Why do you think the prices lowered to begin with here? People started boycotting, protesting, carpooling, riding bikes, and they lost a load of thier profits they were expecting.

The gas prices must rise in order to make people more aware of all the effects to the environment and (especially) the climate. I think it's reasonable that the state makes more money with taxes on oil and gas which of course should to some extent go into environmental projects and energy saving. We also have tax refunds for travels to the job. And if you don't have an employer, but are your own, you have to calculate with the actual costs as everyone else does. And there are also buses, trains, etc.
But after all these prices are really cheap. Todays prices in north-west germany are between 1.10 and 1.40 Euro which is about 1.50 to 1.90 dollars - per litre!

When gas prices neared $4 a gallon, people still purchased gas, and not just out of necessity. They didn't curb their driving habits, they didn't stop themselves from buying their SUVs, etc.

I feel for ya, and would love to see the gas companies die a horrible death, I just don't see it happening until people change their habits completely, not protest for a day or two.

lol 10 billion.. thats close to the current population of the world.

I never buy gas.. cause I'm broke... I have road a bicycle 10 miles a day when I had a job or walked for the past 3 years.. since gas prices originally went up.

I was there a few times... I've spent less then $500 on fuel in the last 3 years. what have you done?

I'm guessing/hoping bush leaving office will help cure us a bit.

lub is right americans are a bit spoiled... but so are other countries in other ways and america is starting to level with the rest of the world finally that their governments are finally catching up to americas supposedly evil one.. but he is severly wrong about his hatred and lashing out at american people reguardless.

point is this.. america is not all about money and gas costs a shitload right now which is good for pollution levels.. which america will continue to lead the way in until it becomes a problem or is no longer cost effective.

burning coal rather then fuels or having some nuclear power aren't always possible... it depends on the industries needs more then a governmental decision. global warming is a problem but you are a fool to believe it's effects are showing as politicians would have you think.

lmfao what do politicians know about the weather... how to watch it while sitting in a $500 suit? wise up to reality people.

and lub your jealousy is showing.

I can't get enough of you uneducated ignorent f'ing foriegners you think americans are all fat but really you are stupid... overweight doesn't nessesarily mean fat and it has more to do with metabolism and genes then diet.

go pick on the dutch. I know more fat people in better health then skinny also. try college your country probably pays for it. morons.

You do realize that Pollution is not just restricted to America, it is a worldwide problem. I don't have the stats, but I know that the US is probably #1 in emissions, etc. But you can't tell me Europe or Asia are not at a close 2nd.

Also, there are people in the US trying to do something about the current pollution problems. Either by raising awareness (Gore) or lobbying for energy amendments (John McCain).

Ignorant comments and pointing fingers is not a part of the solution.

Exactly, so we arnt the ones causing all the polution. And for all you who do drive fuel efficient cars, even if you dont liv ein the US. Try riding a bike, or walking to work for a week or two, and try and see what it is like.

Dont sit here and tell us to start walking or start riding a bike, when you guys drive cars to and from work. And i know for a fact almost everyone drives there. Our population in California has almost like trippled in the past 10 years. So many people live here now, I have to work, i have to pay for gas, i have to support my family. Im seeing a pattern here.

Once you stop driving and walk to work for a couple weeks or 3 then you can tell me to stop driving. Until then i will continue to protest and boycott the gas companies.

For the past 2 weeks, i have stayed home, blew off my friends, never left anywhere in my car except for work, and school. Only times ive ever drivin, and thats nothing compaired to what i used to. So ive cut back alot more on driving, but that doesnt mean i can afford the gas prices.

And yes, um take trains, busses, fly. Take one guess at what they use. Trains-fuel(they arnt old fassioned and use coal anymore), and they use a 50x the amount a car uses because they have to lug around the trains everyone sits in. And oh wow, i just remember, we have to pay for the tickets right? That goes towards gas and to pay their employees.

Busses-Fuel(Diesel)- So if busses use deisel, isnt deseil even worse for the polution? Oh yeah let me just jump on a buss pay a buck for it to do 10x more polution then my car does.

Fly-Fuel-Lets see, let me buy a flight ticket to a different city every day and spend 200$ i dont need to spend because i decided to fly rather than drive. They are alot better at not poluting but they cost a fortune.

Anything else you want me to ramble on about?

Dont take this post in any hard feeling way. This is not meant to flame or anything just release my opinions on the current issue.

In this thread, im not trying to:
°Blame americans for being fat, overweight or lazy
°Blame americans as a whole people.
°State that i hate america in any way

What i did mean was:
°Wow, american gas is soo cheap! You'd practically be able to buy a tanker, fill it with gas in the USA and sell it for twice te cost in any other country!
°Personally i think it's good that the gas prices in the USA is rising. It gives foreign people a possibility to identify themselves more with people from the USA, smashing the old prejudice of 'Americans>World'.

I'm not being jealous. If i'd be then i'd want (Sweden > World)&&(USA > World). I want World > 0. (If you get what i mean).

 :)

10 billion people in the United States...
isn't that more then the world population? (6,525,170,264)

anyway, I welcome the higher prices, it helps developments like this car (and makes it cheaper):

Image

electric cars are not as pathetic as they use to be, this car outperforms a Ferrari, and only exists because of the raising petal prices, it will be cool when electric cars are just like normal cars in price.

People say it's just moving the emissions to the power stations, but that's not true, electric cars and power stations are much more efficient then petal cars, most the fuel you put in your car is not even used to drive it forward. idling and braking don't waste energy with electric cars.

yeah, a little bit offtopic...
