I've just got a dev account in PhysX site. All the tutorials posted by veegun can be found there. By the way, I found that although I do not have a physx card but most of the demos (such as cloth demo) can be run smoothly, except the fluid demos... errors coming out telling me that the features are not supported. Overall still very good.

but what is that?

I realise it requires a physX capable card.. thats what I was talking about.

unless I'm just confused or something.. thats entirely possible.
well my whole point is I'm not aware of any graphics card manufacturers that are impementing PhysX hardware onto their cards, theyre going for the other way like Havoc's doing. so you'll need to buy a separate dedicated PhysX card for PhysX hardware acceleration

i think its stupid to make physics cards since computers can simulate same thing. such cards is just money sucking from people. we have to pay for the game and now we have to pay for new hardware to play that game. it looks a bit silly to me :|

Computers can also simulate their own graphics, why the need for these high-end GPU's?

The physics card is able to take the stain of calculating each little physical movement allowing for greater realism in your simulations. How good is a game really if it has the most amazing, realistic tree you have ever seen, yet it dosen't react to the wind, touch, rain... nothing, it's just static. No immersion factor. These physics card will allow you to render dynamic smoke, fog, quite possibly even flowing water! Look around youtube for some of Ageia's tech demos. Pretty cool looking stuff.

Edit, this is one of my favorites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNYLkwxF2EM

The engine is quite interesting. Hmm but I'm not sure whether it is cross-platform?

you are totaly right but. are all games using aegia? no. are all games using nice graphics? yes. so i gues more usefull is grapchics card instead of physics card. yes, demo looks incredible, so is the gameplay but i gues paying such amount for hardware to play a game is a waste of money

It is early so the prices are going to be high. But once third party manufacturers start developing (which is no doubt, in the works) prices will level off. Much like how graphics cards today can run opengl and directx, you'll find PPU's running Havok, PhysX.

Just think of the possibilities of having a GPU to handle graphics, PPU to handle physics and an AIPU to handle AI. It's all gravy!

I don't think graphics are more usefull or less usefull than physics, etc. Graphics have progressed in leaps and bounds in the past few years, it is only right to let physics, AI, and other game elements catch up. I personally want my games to encompass everything, not just look good.

but imagine, you pay lets say 300$ for hardware which will be used only in 2-5 games you have/can play. i think such physics cards would be much more popular if its features would be used massively

but its early days really. As a developer does the having a separate processing unit for handling physics calculations and allowing the CPU and GPU to do there own stuff at the same time not appeal to you?

bump! Great tutorial :D

Could there be tutorials on how to do collision detection in physX?

1 Introduction

Ragdolls are often used in games to simulate a character going limp or staggering back after getting killed or injured. From the start, you want to build your character with the joints and masses in place. You then turn off the physics on the character and make it move under your a
Would someone know where I can download the tutorial for this? I know its been quite a while perhaps its still out there somewhere?

Thanks

In the IrrPhysX post, we were talking about ( the training program for PhysX v2.7.2).
link: http://developer.download.nvidia.com/Ph ... K_Core.exe

in the folder:
AGEIA Technologies\SDK\v2.7.2\TrainingPrograms\Programs\Chapter4_Large_Scale_Physics_Effects\Lesson404_Ragdolls.

oh wow thanks. I have the latest SDK 2.8.1 and they didn't have this included anymore.

Thanks!

You're right :s I wonder why? There doesn't seem to be a ragdoll example at all... maybe they've renamed it or put it somewhere else... Can't think why they'd remove it!
