Looking to contract Irrlicht programmer

Post by JeffL »

I run Star Sonata, a small, but currently profitable MMORPG. We are looking to convert our front end to Irrlicht and away from straight DirectX/MFC. There has been some progress creating new GUI widgets that we'll need (see here for some of the stuff one of our programmers did a year ago,) but we just don't have the programming manpower at the moment to create a new front-end client and keep up with demand for new features on the server side.

Our game is a 2d game, which makes it quite playable, but we want to move to 3d graphics within the 2d game, like Warcraft 3, and Irrlicht seems like the best choice for this, since our 3d demands are not terribly complicated and Irrlicht is easy to use and easy to extend.

If anyone with experience might be interested in porting our front-end to Irrlicht either as a contract or else for profit sharing, please email or message me. Our number of paying users has been increasing steadily, so if you get in on the profit sharing, it will potentially be lucrative for years to come.

It'd be nice if you could post a list of resonsibilities of the contracted programmer.

Think you should be able to understand the existing pure directx code and rewrite it so it's using irrlicht and 3d objects instead of sprites?

If you go to our website and download our game and take a look at it, you will get a good idea of what we're looking for. Basically, what you see + the ability to also display 3d models in the game area. I have a very basic game up and running using Irrlicht graphics, so the framework is in place. It just needs filling in and polishing, and I thought someone who has used Irrlicht before could do it fairly easily.

Experienced means you've used Irrlicht before, and preferably have used the GUI elements in Irrlicht before because this is mainly a GUI job.

Oh yes I remember those GUI addons from a long time ago. Your game seems very interesting, I thought it was a run of the mil mmo then I clicked and I thought "omg space sim!". Anyway I would like to help myself but I have exams and stuff :?

If you are still looking in 2 weeks or so I'd love to see what I can do for you.
