Make people aware!

Post by Anacondaleeza »

Hi all;

How can a programmer help people suffring from war and famine?

please give real samples?

thanks in advance

Don't really know why you're asking this. I see two possibles reasons : you're thinking programmers are useless in the world, or you've got an exam which topic is "How can a programmer help people suffring from war and famine? " ;) .
Anyway, i think the question is stupid : i could ask
"how can a fireman help people suffring from war and famine? "
"how can a plumber help people suffring from war and famine? "
...
You understand ? This doesn't make sense ! The true question is "how can PEOPLE help other people suffring from war and famine? ", and unfortunately, i don't have any answers :cry:
But to show you that programmers and computer science are able to help a bit these people, take a look at the Geekcorps website :
http://geekcorps.org/category/programs/mistowa/
It's a "real sample" of a nonprofit organization i've discovered some times ago.

i've got an answer: by programming a relief-o-meter and connecting it to the account balances of significant aid orginizations.
then they could program a paypal donation button of some sort.

see?? its all so easy!

guh...a profession does not define how you can help someone. geeze

I use my super programming powers to make warbots to fight all enemies. No war if there's no enemies.

I use my super programming powers to make bread fall from the sky over starving nations.

I thought this question might have been spam. Although there are programmers who donate money to charities, John Carmack is one and TakeTwo has charity.

I think that programmers can't do any thing for people(suffering....); they are just trying resolve machine war (security) and computer famine (new programs).

:lol:

i'a m just ......Any way; a programmer can do many things:

* opensource projects can help those people learn new technologies
* donating
* speaking about them (what we are doing here)
* ....

Code: Select all

#define BUSH_IS_PRESIDENT 0
#define REMOVE_OPPRESSORS 1
I've looked into that, but then when I try to do this:

Code: Select all

#define OPPRESSION ?
I get these error messages:
A fatal exception "questioning is not acceptable" has occurred at public:discourse.
Error Message: The system has caused a fatal exception "Media" at "every possible level" and all rational thought will be terminated.

uh wtf... nobody mentions simulators??????

how about computers in general they are just calculators with software programming.. and lets not forget all the software in all those nifty war gadgets.

but like everyone is saying you're missing the point entirly. see you have to understand that war is a vital part of society sure we could feed everyone with a shitload of effort and farms lining all roads everywhere. but it's more profitable and sensable to sell them guns instead and let them take care of the problem themselves.. why would you want to help most of the people involved anyways they want you dead!!

now beside that point you also have to consider that eventually people won't want to fight with their bodies but with the mind... generally speaking about robots and unmanned vehicles.

if you want to help rid the world of war the answer is simple kill everyone.

if you want to rid the world of famine and poverty then stop giving the lazy idiots money to sit on their ass and try to grow crops in the fricking desert.

you want to help the world? turn on your brain!!

on second thought... it's easier for programmers to help create war and famine then to help eradicate it.

but most of us are game designers.. which studies have proven that gamers are less violent in nature because they vent and because they simulate murder which lessens the drive to commit the act for real if anything.
