I have finaly managed to encorporate Collision detection into the engine so now the character can run around the map and not walk through walls and trees

This feature will be in V0.2.25i which is due for release soon

Cheers DGENXP

I've posted up a few (?) new screenshots of the terrain-editing feature which I've been working on over the past week or two:
http://www.freepowerboards.com/rb3ddeve ... out45.html

(and yes, those are the terrain heightmap and texture images which came with the Irrlicht library. Thanks to whoever made them!)

I had a look at arras' new-tiled-terrain-scene-node, but it wasn't suited to our needs, so I built up my own custom class,
which uses a seperate mesh-buffer for each tile (of 2x2 tiles), giving the speed and the control which wasn't possible (in this project) before.
Lighting is an issue though (there isn't any on the terrain...)

Although I haven't used his code, I thought I'd mention arras here, as a very helpful contributor, nonetheless.
(even inspiration deserves some credit)

Just so you know, this is still dgen's project, and I'm just helping with the odd thing here and there.
He's been away for a few weeks, but as soon as he returns, we will be discussing the dates for the next release.

I made this post just as a reminder that this project is still moving forwards, and feedback would be appreciated very much.
This feature (and the engine as a whole) is still in development, so expect things to change for the better.

and since I'm here, could I make a public Thankyou to the Irrlicht team (niko, hybrid, others I can't recall, sorry)
for creating this superb free engine which we all love and use (well, most of us...).

Also, thankyous to vermeer, spintz and vitek, for being who they are, for doing what they do.
I've lost count of the number of times they've posted some extremely useful and helpful bits of code and advice...

Good things is that I changed the detail map material to using modulate, so lighting will work in the next release.

Is the source going to be sold? I'm looking for an editor for this engine that has the source, and doesn't cost 3000 eur.

Source code?

Post by DGENXP »

the code for this project is likely to be available when the Pro version is released.. when this will be is still unknown but i am aiming for the middle part of next year.. and this code will be free!! Just like this program is

The pro version however will never have its source code available and the project will not be free im afraid.

But this irrlicht version is!

cheers DGEN-XP

hope this helps.
