JTEdit
JTEdit
I'm surprised their hasn't been more talk about this tool (http://www.jtgame.com/jtedit/). It is rather buggy, but as far as I can find it is the only free tool that exports .x with bones and weights. I've only used it a little so far, but it seems quite powerful. I opened the dwarf.x from teh Irrlicht media in JTEdit and then exported it out again. Irrlicht loaded it perfectly.
i metioned, indeed.But not much.
Why? I find it counter intuitive. Author uses to reply that is needed read the manuals.I have handled loads of 3d aplications, adn if needs a manual for esential work...also... the workflow , is not quick.
also, it crashed in my face so many times...
I found it somehow not useful as it was then, but it may have improved.
Also, I read the author was tired of coding for it for low feedback (which can be true) and as he wished to focus in his engine.
I think is great when people make tools for free. I wont put those down, but wont recommend eithe rif I think it has too many problems.
Blender is also complex to learn, surely much more complex, but somehow, it does makes much more advanced features, so I thought it worthed better to take that direction.
Also...though I know we're in an open source focused forum...well...these days I DO actually make my anims with Character Fx.And heck, is the only one to do the job in all the stages.
I know you're all bout open source, but this one is only 15$ dollars..I know...is a matter of philosophy, so, I wont argue there.
Blender x plugin has not been released yet.
But hey, do use JetEdit if u wish. I just rather prefer to bet for Blender, or in worst case, stick with my CharacterFX for animations.

[btw, I made that dwarf with Wings3d and animated with character Fx.The fact is a very crappy model, done in a moment But much people find it funny, so... ]
I hope to be able to give Niko some more decent x model as sample in some time(a pair of months, perhaps, I don't know), now I'm too busy.
