Serious issues with world editors

Post by Ion Dune »

To basically sum it up, I need a new, simple world editor that works easily.

I started out with Cinema4D, which I am well versed in using. However, when I export in .obj or .3ds, my file shows up without textures when rendered in irrlicht, and polys are only visible part of the time. Also, for some reason I get stuck in them, but that might be trouble with my program.

After that, I moved onto radiant. I really hated the control scheme of this program, but I stuck with it because I thought it would work. I did everything it said in this tutorial, and even got the nemesis map to work in my program, but the moment I tried to make my own map I started getting problems. When I use it in my program, the whole thing is black as though untextured, but the console says it loaded the textures fine. And besides that, I really couldn't see a way to do any of the things I wanted to do for my level.

So I just need to know what the best level designer is for irrlicht. I want something I can use straight up, without a bunch of special properties I have to go through, without downloading a million little plugins, and with a control scheme that wasn't designed in the 80's. I just want to be able to design a level, apply textures, click save and have it work, if possible.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help.

EDIT: I just had a look at DeleD 3D Editor. It looks good to me, but I just want to get some feedback on how well it works integrating with Irrlicht and overall as a 3d modeler. Any feedback?

3ds and obj are pretty well supported in Irrlicht, at least showing textures automatically and showing the whole mesh if the application requires to do so. So either you use an older version of Irrlicht which still has some bugs in the loaders (you might try the latest beta or irrEdit 1.4) or your export is wrong.

I'm using 1.3.1, the latest non-beta version. I'm almost 100% sure its a problem with Cinema 4D, because any models but mine work fine.

I started working with DeleD and built a simple room, but when I loaded it in Irrlicht all I got was a black screen. The console loaded the texture and the model fine, and I tried .x and .dmf, but got only a black screen with both. Any help?

I'm using Cinema 4D 10.506 and exporting to Direct 3D format. It's working fine for me except for some reason textures always come out as tiled. Trying to figure out why that's happening now...

EDIT: NEVERMIND! Sorry, but I have been being a complete idiot. I forgot to change the map's position, so when I loaded my tiny models, they ended up way offset from the origin, so all I saw was black. Its working now, thank god!
