From Poser to Irrlicht

Post by pixeljunky »

Hello,

did anybody bring Poser animations to Irrlicht ?
It seems to be pretty difficult with textures.
Sure they need to be reduced but what is the best way ?

Any tips ? Any tools ?

Thanks

I haven't done this myself because I haven't got a copy of Poser. However, I do know that Poser's meshes can't be used in games due to legal problems. You'll need to actually make your own meshes, rig them, then use poser to animate them - you legally can't re-distribute e-frontier's meshes

Hello bitplane,

thanks for the help.
I heard about the legal issues about poser.
It seems to be pretty difficult to license the models.
But i think it is ok if i create most stuff by myself.
I will check the license ...
Poser is a great tool so if there is a way to bring animations
to irrlicht it would be a great step.

It is sometimes possible to get poser for free on magazines
and from their website.
I got a free license of poser 5 from their web promotion.

yep, but even purchased, the meshes arent free to export and use by a 3d application...it's thought to use their rendered stuff, inside poser, as rendered 2d artwork.used by designers and...some illustrators...

I don't use it. I simply so much really prefer to do my own meshes and animate with Blender, Max or Gmax. Indeed, specially game wise , is quite better, imho, unless you do a prerendered strategy, role, etc, non real time 3d game...I guess then is just 2d rendered images, so, safe to go.

Anyway, by no means poser meshes are thought for 3d real time games, or optimized for texture size optimization. Other reason why I prefer not to use it...And also, is so long to make customized meshes out of its characters, that -maybe 'cause wings is such a fast modeling tool- I always found way faster to model and texture my own from scratch. And while at beguining is quite hard any animation tool, imho at the end pays better, and better a complete tool, like blender... Or, of course, Maya, Lightwave, XSI, or Max.
Finally making games again!
