When I was learning to model a bit, I used a plugin for MAX that flattened meshes a little better than the MAX eqivelent and let you transfer coordinates from a flat mesh to a model if the verticies matched. I found this plugin very useful for doing 3D mesh painting as I could actually understand what bits were what ( for example, the chest was one flat plane ). Made it easier to edit without a 3D mesh painter if someone else didn't have it. Does anyone remember this plugin and where to get it? It made texture mapping very easy, after a while I found it easier than 3D mesh painters ( I always was a better in Photoshop than other programs ).

I painted that way before using my 3d painter.

it's called Texporter, and it's free. :)

Ultimate Unwrap also has it.

Blender recently got something similar, thanks to JMS plugin

I think I was using Texporter before yeah, although Ultimate Unwrap looks pretty good too. I might give them a try if I decide to take a break from programming and crack on with some models again. Cheers m8

i use a combination of tattoo and GIMP

Post by buhatkj »

that pairing works pretty well for me anywho, tattoo lets me paint it in 3d, and if i wanna paste in a bit of a photograph and blend it i have the gimp. here is a small screener of a skin i'm working on:

It is based on one of the model's that vermeer posted in this thread.
the skin is paited on in tattoo, and the eyes are taken from a photo and then blended in the gimp and tattoo. only thing i dont like about it so far is that his skin seems too white, need more red in it otherwise he looks like a zombie hehe ;-)

ouch, some uv errors there...forgot to weld some UVs, hehe..anyway, is not a prob in model texturing.

@ peter, I uploaded the files again :

one (you need www.7-zip.org free decompressor to open the file)

two

and the third is always at this site :
www.freewebs.com/sysiphus

Please as I always say, remember these are unended, only first texture strokes are done, and tehre's one that need a reorganizing of UVs, which even are outside the uv square. The other 2 models have they're UVs done.
Is not actual "pro work",but useful.

smartwhiz...I told, Tatoo is, unless your project is comercial.

Then Graffitti is totally free -also link in previous post- but not much easy to handle/neither powerful, actually maybe not really capable.

buhatkj, that pic didnt show...

I forgot.I had somewhere these some-minutes crappy thing, you can use it as texture,(just save the jpg) not much can be done with the weapon2.obj, as it has one of the quickest, weirdest uv mappings I ever did, mostly when u want to do all in just a few minutes... ;)
