Crazy Eddie's GUI - Version 0.6.0 Released!

Post by CrazyEddie »

Hello there, I am CrazyEddie of CEGUI fame. Since we maintain a Irrlicht rendering interface for our GUI project, we though it would be appropriate to give you guys a heads-up on the latest 0.6.0 release of CEGUI.

Below is the 'official announcement text', and we hope to see some of you guys over on the CEGUI forums in the future :)

This screenshot shows the text demo running under irrlicht - I included the console window as 'proof' (since the demos look the same under the other renderers too ;) ).

The Crazy Eddie's GUI System project (crayzedsgui on sourceforge.net) is pleased to announce the release of version 0.6.0 of the Crazy Eddie's GUI System library and associated CELayoutEditor and CEImagesetEditor tools.

Founded in 2003, Crazy Eddie's GUI System has consistently been one of the favourite choices for the serious game or multimedia developer needing a mature, stable and flexible rendered GUI solution. The library is open source, highly configurable and offers virtually unrivalled skinning opportunities via its "Falagard" XML skinning system. Crazy Eddie's GUI System library is released under the MIT license, thus offering the ultimate flexibility for all usage scenarios.

The 0.6.0 release comes some 16 months after the previous release, and marks the official return of Paul D Turner (CrazyEddie) as project leader and as a permanent member on the development team.

For more information about Crazy Eddie's GUI System see the project website at http://www.cegui.org.uk. Support requests for the library and associated tools, in the first instance, should be directed at the Crazy Eddie's GUI System project forums at http://forums.cegui.org.uk.

I'm giddy as a schoolgirl! On roofies!

All respect to bitplane and the other Irrlicht GUI devs, but I think I'll go with CEGUI for any production work.

Heh. The first thing I did when starting to work with OGRE3D, was getting rid of CEGUI. ;)

Oh, it was just a little bit complicated for me. To be honest, I don't know if that's generally the case, because I am still a beginner, regarding OGRE and programming in general. I'm completely happy with MyGUI (OGRE-only) now, the initialization and loading layouts is a piece of cake with it.
I'd love to hear some experiences of the combination Irrlicht/CEGUI!

 I am happy to be here.

With regards to ease of use and such - please do let us know (over at the CEGUI site) of any ease of use issues. Obviously it is our goal for CEGUI to be a continued success, and are always on the look out for ways to improve things - so rather than suffer in silence, or bemoan the state of things where nobody who can do anything about it will see it, please come and give us the feedback we need :)

"... and associated CELayoutEditor and CEImagesetEditor tools."

Ahhh, finally :-) I'm part of development team working on a Pyroblazer (www.pyroblazer.com). Two years ago we were using CEGUI, but without these tools, it was pain-in-the-ass to use it :-) It was especially hard for artist to use it. I wish we had those tools back in that days (they were still in the development stage). We had to replace it with our own GUI system. I hope we'll use CEGUI again :-)
