Well, i thought i might elaborate.
The system iv created for this type of GUI is infact a sprite class. it is an animated sprite manager, which (obv) can do non animated sprites as well. There is not much 2d stuff outside of the basics inside irrlicht and i was planning on making a 2d GUI based game. the final release thing of this will incorporate a few things,
animated sprites
animated entities (menus, etc) with mouseover and click events to check for
animated scenes (like flashbacks is what i used it for)
animated sequences. for example, i recorded a short clip of a man speaking, dubbed over my own sound and preloaded the images for the video. Then when u get to a certain point it did the whole "command and conquer" in hud video thing. obviously its not the best choice for video but i was going for using images only at this point.
The simplicity is really evident and i will be releasinf a new demo for this soon.

Well, for my little game I need to make a decent inventory and gui. So although flash integration would make it a lot easier to do, your modifications will nonetheless be useful in making it look prettiermy response wud be, for what?
BBut, there has been lots of progress with this. coming real soon ;p
