MasterGod wrote: And how can you compare to uber cool PS3 with its ~10 processors and awesome graphics and amazing games and ultra fun to a simple PC  :D .
you can't compare a PS3 with a PC, because a PS3's only purpose is to play games on it. a PC is the only console, you can play, programm, watch movies with, and all the stuff you want to do in your living room. the only negative aspects are price and the small loose of performance you get (wich is not that bad if you buy a new one)...
i'm wondering why everybody is into consoles that much these days... a PC can do all the stuff a console can?!

Well, a console is a PC that is built to run almost only games so a PC of the same price of a PS3 for example won't be as good as a PS3 as far as games are the issue. The same amount of money can give you 2 machines, one of them would run games better, that would be a console.

P.S
When I was 13 I bought a PC and a PS2. I almost didn't play at all on my PC and this setup succeed for about 6 years. Now I got a new powerful PC (much more then the old awesome PS2) and I'm saving for a PS3 (when it gets cheaper).

well, how it's all mounted and how devs must work with ps3(almost direct knowing here), is not that exciting...

bout gaming..nah...i'll wait the pc...
now , wild guess, but i suppose from an xbox version shouldn't be that hard do pc version...sells is another thing...I've worked doing tinny textures that ps2 allowed, what a pain, when by then pcs could eat much more quality textures...and actually throw same or more polycount...

BTW, the game seems like rocks. Not that i have really time for playing , but..
Finally making games again!

Yeah, I have to agree that I will wait for the PC version. Not that I am in any way putting GTA IV down, or saying that it sucks, or saying that I am just playing it for graphics, but it is getting annoying. And I just hope that they try to take advantage of more processing power on the PC.

For one things the shadows are very annoying as the shadow mapping technique twinkles frequently whether you are moving or not. Depth of field could have been toned down a bit, and you can clearing see when their prediction algorithm fails, and a model loads in with the bottom mip map level that then gets increased. Also when going inside a building the lighting is changed, and it is easily noticeable, and trees also pop up right in from of you, if your driving fast, and immediately make for a crash.

Now besides those petty graphics problems, which are to be expected since it is only 360, the gameplay is simply amazing. In fact it is just fun spawning a helicopter, crossing the lines enforced on you, from the start when you complete no missions, and getting an immediate six stars in which you can begin RPGing some helicopter police!

Also they integrated Endorphin really well. And there is no slowdown at all when you play in a big area like Manhattan with 16 players online all driving cars shooting at each other.

And if you are in it for realistic gameplay, then this is also the game for you. Never shoot a person in front of another person, as they will try to find a cop, and notify them, in which you will receive a star. A lot of things have been changed with the police this time around, and it makes it a crapload of fun. For example, stealing a police car, and then calling backup.

It's a load of fun, and totally worth it. Especially when you can act as cynical as you want.

You called?

Multiplayer GTA 1 was more fun than shooting monkeys in a barrel. GTI IV multiplayer makes me shiver with antici

pation.

That got me wanna buy GTA IV x20 more then GameSpot's review on it  . You should look for another job :D . Nevertheless it sounds truly amazing game and I hope the PC version would be even better (I'm waiting for a game that would bring my new PC to its knees , every game I tried ran smoothly on the highest configurations 8) )

You obviously haven't played Crysis then.

And to comment on bitplane's comment about, "I've never really liked the idea of having a separate computer whos only purpose in life is to sell you stuff".

I would actually venture to say that consoles are part of the reason that GTA IV even came to the market the way it did with its $100 million budget.

As we all know pirating is not the "norm" on consoles, although with PCs there are sites specifically setup for pirating. I don't believe that GTA IV, or even GTA in general, would not sell as well if it wasn't for consoles.

I honestly would buy it, but their are a lot of people who don't believe in common courtesy. Just looking at the numbers for PC exclusive games compared to console games will give you the answer.

Even Crytek, who expected big returns on their game, were disappointed that the PC community pirated it so much, and the president has released a statement saying that they will not exclusively develop for the PC anymore.

But anyways, that's just my opinion.

@Halifax: Can't agree with you more.
And I'm waiting till Crysis gets cheaper though I haven't checked its price lately but if it could do what you say, that would be wonderful :D

meh, i think the reason pc games get low returns is because publishers try to sell them like console games. They give you min-specs that would run the game at 10fps at the lowest quality as your minimum requirement, and give you a recommended 3000$ machine.

I understand immersion is important for many people, and that initial graphics flare is also important. Publishers need to realize that PC games can't be sold for 50$'s. If, say, Supreme Commander had sold for 20-25$'s at release, you can bet that a bunch more people would have purchased it. Putting a PC game at the same price point as a console game is just silly. A console is the loss leader for that industry, with the games made for it making up the profit. Not so with PC's. The PS3 is likely a 1500$ machine. But the average gamer is gonna buy 20+ games for their console at 60$'s apiece. With sony getting a cut of every game, there's a reason they don't allow homebrew titles on the console.

The owner of the PC pays for each cent of his machine. There's no cutback that goes to microsoft beyond the GFW and possibly D3D licenses. Dell doesn't get a cut of the games that are played on it's XPS system. Alienware isn't held up by EA Studios. About the most that happens is compaines like BFG, the video card resellers, get a little change from advertising games on their high-end cards.

Basically, i'm saying, if any of you guys sell a game, remember its not a conolse title.

I don't recall ever hearing that Sony gets a cut of every single game that is sold on their system. I have heard that they do get some money if the game was developed in-house, but I don't believe that independent developers pay them any royalties at all. Feel free to prove me wrong with some documents because I am not sure.

What's the GFW? And I have never heard of a developer having to license Direct3D.

Well where is the slack going to be picked up for the $25 million dollars that was put into developement, and possibly the more millions that went into advertising.

Honestly I don't see $50 as being anything at all when I am getting a game like Gears of War for PC, or Crysis, or any of the other games that I like.

every console maker forces a licenseing and profit cut via the console API. indy makers use homebrew technology

GFW is the "Games For Windows" logo. and i wasn't saying that there was a d3d license, only that there might be, hence the "possibly"

what makes up that slack is the decreased piracy rate, the increased sale rate, and you still have a zero-sum production cost as the sales increase...especially if you release on the internet. also, maybe it's just me, but i haven't seen a tv add for a pc game in years. the last one i can remember is (aside form the g4tv reviews)...well...i can't remember any. and any that i can all happen to be released for the consoles as well.
