A space to share our sincere appreciation

Post by peacerosetx »

Greetings All,

I feel so indebted to the folks at IRRLICHT, and to all those who answer in the forums. I am writing to propose to have a space where we could honor those folks with a Thank You thread where the work of these extra-ordinary efforts can be shared by the community. I know people do things because they want to and that is the beauty of it, this is just a suggestion, any thoughts?

People have written some very poetic code to help others and created classes that I am sure so many others have benefited from. I personally want to thank Halifax for the development of CIrrEventReceiver and to Yustme for the wonderful additions. You can view their tremendous work here: http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/ ... ntreceiver It compiled and worked!!

God bless you both and all of you who help

NB I am a noob so if this is totally the wrong thing to do I understand

Not exactly the wrong thing to do, there's a new 'thank you' thread fairly often round here

No harm in saying thank you again, i'm sure it makes the people who are being thanked feel very proud and valued!

Hey JP,

You are correct the Thank you's do come and go. :D What about more in terms of a more permanent showcase since there are some Gem snippets and code out there. When I do searches I stumble across them I try to create links to them as best as I can.

Imagine if there were directories of Eventreceiver Gems and snippets Gems that people created, or code with regard to FPS or shaders that people have created that we cold access more readily?

I guess I can let this go and see what happens...You are correct that folks appreciate the thank you and that is what counts.

I have compiled a list of a few links and can post them as examples perhaps if there is interest.

Peace

There's a project called IrrExt which a couple of folks have set up which is to give easy access to Irrlicht extensions and code snippets that people can use and will be kept up to date with the latest version of Irrlicht (how many times have you found a great snippet but it won't compile with the latest version of Irrlicht?)

So if you've got some suggestions for things that could be added to the IrrExt project then post in this thread: http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=27337

Or contact Zeuss or bitplane with your suggestions.

I should think the original author's permission will be required, which is a bit of a shame as i think a lot of useful code snippets have been written by people who aren't active on the forum anymore. I guess if they've posted the code on the forum as open source then that's basically permission for it to be put into IrrExt.

Haha, hey thanks for the notice peacerosetx. It's nice to know that people actually use CIrrEventReceiver, even though I made it in my infancy.
