[hw driver prob]Intel graphics, OpenGL & problems with L

Post by Minnek »

Let's hope someone here can shed some light on this...

I compiled Irrlicht on my laptop in Linux, using the latest gcc and drivers etc. available for Fedora. (Gateway w/ Intel 945GM graphics, using the intel drivers) Everything goes great with the first few tutorials, but once I get to higher tutorials (starting at tutorial 5) I cannot render with OpenGL. I crash with this assertion failure:

Code: Select all

10.Shaders: ../common/dri_bufmgr_fake.c:982: dri_fake_emit_reloc: Assertion `target_fake->is_static || target_fake->size_accounted' failed.
The program runs absolutely perfect (albeit slowly) with the software renderers. Further testing also shows that tutorials 7, 8, 13, 15, and 16 work fine; the rest fail miserably. I am unsure how to proceed, what the problem may be, or in general how to fix it. Anyone have any ideas? I will provide any information needed.

Much obligued and looking forward to using the engine! It appears to be excellent.

Are you sure your open GL setup is ok? Have you tested some demos or screensaver and be sure they used the hardware?

You need to support a recent release of Hardware OPENGL (I think if only GL1.0 would not suffice for shader support).
If you can try to post the version and details (GL hardware support and extension support) your current hardware support, other members using IRRlicht on Linux will be able to help more I think.

Sure, no problem. This is the first time I've had an application compiled in Linux fail on me, but running certain games through Wine seems to have similar issues. (Games normally rated as platinum and fully compatible, that is.) GLXGears etc work fine for me. As for my setup...

glxinfo reports this:

I'm running Fedora 9 fully updated, and the problem exists in my present Mesa version, which should be fairly close to nightly repo at this point. (7.1-0.37)

This is on an Intel 945GM graphics card; I've heard of issues with the intel drivers in the past for issues somewhat like this, but none of them seemed to yield any answers. If I can find it I'll post a link to one of the most similar problems in case it's of use.

Let me know if I can provide anything else of use, I couldn't think of anything off-hand.

Thanks greatly for the assistance.

I think than it's driver issue, Fedora 9 has got new XServer 1.5 (1.4.99 without update) so maybe Intel drivers isn't 100% compatible with new XServer ;)

Sorry to revive this, but I couldn't see creating a new thread if this one was still open.

I've narrowed my problems down thus far to this line of code:

Code: Select all

	gui::IGUIStaticText* text = env->addStaticText(
		L"Testing", core::rect<s32>(10,453,200,475), true, true, 0, -1, true);
When this line is in, I receive the error:

Code: Select all

../common/dri_bufmgr_fake.c:982: dri_fake_emit_reloc: Assertion `target_fake->is_static || target_fake->size_accounted' failed.
Without it, my program compiles fine. Is there perhaps a default font that I'm missing that Irrlicht uses? Or does Irrlicht require that I set a default font before using static text? I don't see the latter in any of the examples, so...

Anyone? I'd really appreciate any help you can give here.

EDIT: It appears to occur with any text, which makes the GUI unusable. Any thoughts why?

EDIT2: It appears to occur with the SpriteBank of IGUIFont.

Please try to use a different driver, either older or newer (the latter is preferrable, though :wink: ). This is most likely a hw driver error which sometimes occurs in driver history...

I used to have the same problem when I updated to an alpha of Ubuntu Interpid (didn't have it on Hardy), but they seemed to have fixed the problem. I guess you just have to wait for a bit for the update to get picked up by the Fedora folks.
