Galactica : Corsairs

Post by night_hawk »

Well, with one annoying bug fixed and several things all in place, I think I have something I can finally show you!

Quick info about the game: it will be a hybrid (no pun intended!) of several game types, but mostly, it will be a strategy. So I present you a short movie of several fighters fighting each other. Nothing special, just all-out massacre.

Just click here and enjoy.

Update 10 September: Actual .exe for 10th September 2008

pfff movie... we want an executable! :D

looks like a good start, though it was quite hard to see what was going on there. how did you do the flight of the ships and rockets? they look pretty nice!

also how did you capture the video? looks like a pretty good framerate on the video.. fraps is always rubbish for me...

Nice start,

Also i concur with the honourable delegate of Naboo 'JP', how did you capture the video with such a good frame rate.

taksi allows you to adjust it so that even if the game doesnt play with full frame rate, the recording will change timings so that the video will play at full fps.

No taksi, just Camtasia. Good app. Worth it.
As for the rotations, they're based on a funny matrix math thingy I found somewhere. Had to tweak it a bit to fit my needs and set it up correctly for PhysX, but sadly, I still don't fully understand that code.

how is it worth it when taksi is free, open-source, and perfect for any dx or ogl screen recording solution?

If I'm not mistaken Camtasia also comes with a video editing software that is pretty nice as well. Taksi being free and open-source doesn't make Camtasia any less worth it.

On topic :

Well, what you see recorded there is dx. I've also recorded ogl aswell without any problems.

5 actualy :D

Anyway, once I get some time to finish the third person camera, I'll post a better looking movie.

And JP: no exe for now XD not stable enough yet. Maybe after I implement actual interaction and some multiplayer.

Rejoice, for I need feedback. And because I need feedback (and most importantly, bug reports), I'm posting the current version of the game. It's not realy that much, but it's multithreaded and very likely full of bugs. It's hard for me to try and find bugs, so I come to you for help!! Maybe it will even be a fun experience. Anyway, here's a link:

This is a link

Please tell me of ANYTHING that looks... not right.
Feel free to mess around the Data/Ships/ships.xml file. Add weapons, change weapons, make them shoot barrages of rockets, etc, etc, etc...

BTW: thanks to Sudi for his effects :D Got them up and running in no time.

Do you have the Visual C++ Redist installed?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Ah, and of course the NVidia PhysX drivers... how can I forget about them?
http://developer.nvidia.com/object/physx_downloads.html
You only need the System Software Versions for Game Distribution.
A direct link here: PhysX Game Installer.

Sorry for forgetting to mention them...
