It's not too bad, tho. I think some of the cool stuff out there can be added in there which is what I'm currently playing around with. I've reached the ceiling and for me to move forward will mean some new code will have to be added in the engine.

To get stuff like this one shown below.

and this...

And then add DOT3 in there somehow.

Regardless what everybody said I think this image looks very cool!
I'm wondering when would Irrlicht have such capabilities...

I'm sure irrlicht could render that now, it's just a case of writing the shaders probably and getting a good artist (though hopefully one who can model muscles a bit nicer )

i love how all of a sudden shaders make the engine better then a different engine. AS mentioned , shaders, shaders, shaders.

true...

when people look at the irrlicht demos they don't see flashy shaders and nice models so they think irrlicht is just some crappy packed^^ and they probably leave...

so is that a good or a bad thing....hmmm since i don't want to offend any of those kids i won't tell ya what i think^^

If you think irrlicht is going to fail then you never coded with it before, or attempted to code in 3d ever. Irrlicht is by far the easiest, quickest, and most intuitive 3d development library there is.

And like said, the majority of people using irrlicht are not huge budgeted game developing teams, but small time researchers and hobbyists, most who will never use bump maps anyways.

Personally I think there is alot of great availability for all kinds effects, but until they are easier to implement it doesn't matter - they'll never get used almost ever.

shaders now adays are important, but since irrlicht comes packed with a parrallax shader, i dont see the issue anyways. that scene is nothing big either, its a simple model (not even that good) with a normal map shader... oh god.... seriously its not that great or even good.
