Brute: Your Virtual Dragon

Post by stevend »

I have recently went back to school and i have decided to start a smaller project i could toy with while i am strapped for time.

Any ways, its called Brute: Your Virtual Dragon.

Basically the idea will be you start a new game, and you get an egg.
A little AVI will play (some day) and it hatches. You have a pet dragon!

You will have to feed it, praise it, train it, etc. To earn money, you will make it fight in battle against other dragons. You will be able to buy upgrades to your dragons habitat. Eventually it grows, gets bigger, it dies, maybe leaving a new egg, or you have to buy your own. If you go bankrupt, you lose.

Most of the description is just the theory but i've allready finished a good little framework supporting most of the basic things. The game play will be more text based and GUI based, with a turn based battle engine. Kind of like a 2D game idea with a 3D graphics engine! If you have ever played Digimon for PS than you know what i mean...

Its not going to be a long game with a story line (like i want my rpg engine to have  ) It will be more like an arcade style game or something.

Anyways heres a screen shot, ill realease source and binaries once i get a bit more finished.. :)

Oh no, you are getting into the cycle! Before you know it you will have like 20 unfinished projects floating around. :P

Good luck :D

I think the word your looking for is Tamagotchi

Anyways, looks good so far.

 i feared the same thing myself, but, i figure this one should reach a stable version fairly quickly. Also, with my RPG engine, it has to be coded so its extendable.

In this game there will only be a few different types of NPC's (dragons, huntable animals. etc) and game states (main menu, training mode, battle mode, etc). which should really speed devlopment.

And the main reason I started this project is so that i actually finish atleast one game during my Irrlicht experiance lol

Do you need artwork? If I could get a feel that you are very dedicated to this game, I might be interested in doing some work with you on it. Are you planning on selling it commercially?

I am always dedicated to at least one project. my other game is far to big to work on at the moment, and this one, i started a few days ago, and it all ready has a very stable engine backing it.

Basically, for the first beta, there will be one map, which is your dragons habitat. from here you can feed it, train it, etc. There will also be a second map where you battle your dragon against another one.

From here i will just build onto it :)

The dragon model i use unfortunately is not mine and i doubt it could be sold with my game :( but maybe i could get a hold of the creator of this model and maybe work something out.

also, when you say artwork, do you mean concept art, GUI, or 3D?

I can do it all, Im a freelance game artist for my occupation so I have experience with it all. I prefer 3D work, and my gui work is a little poor but can be decent, just not great like some peoples.

Well i will be posting on here after some more devlopment is done, and i will probably PM you.

My goal is to have finished a sample beta by this monday, and then we will be able to muster up a few concepts for this game :P

Goal for monday:
- Basic build which will run on windows and linux. (this one will actually work on linux, because im not using a physics engine)
- A basic level which will be that dragons "habitat". it will consist of some sort of GUI that allows you to train, feed, etc your pet.
- A second basic level which will be the area, where your dragon can fight other dragons
- The concept of money!

i have some ideas in my bag of tricks aswell, such as networked pet battles, habitat modification, etc

also, ive had some ideas for the gui. such as when you hover over your pet a menu appears, made of billboards, instead of windows and buttons.

anyways, thanks for the interest
