Team Fortress 2 PSP on the LTE engine, coder(s) needed!

Post by Cyberdemon5150 »

I and a small band of coders thought of an LTE port of the awesome TF2 with Tom Tallian's wonderfully reduced low poly TF2 character models.
We need a coder to put together all of the materials we have gathered, and a modeler to model the sentry gun and its stage transitions as well as the dispenser. Needless to say, you will be immortalized if this works.
PM me if you're interested and I'll give you a link to the project. Many thanks if you do decide to help us out!

Perhaps you could maybe post a teaser screen or something. Something that shows you have something.

I hope you have the permission of Valve (the creator and current copyright holder) to do this port? If not, I'd discuss it with them before you write that first line of code. Usually Valve is open to modifications of their products, but this falls outside of the scope of the SourceSDK.

We have no teaser screen shots because we have nothing done at the moment except for the menu code which won't compile right, but hopefully we will have something soon... And no, we don't have permission yet, though maybe Valve would let us code it for them to sell... Sony wouldn't be so stupid as to say no to Valve regarding a TF2 port... Well! the search for coders still stands!

lmao.. hilarious! Why would you put an FPS game on PSP? I mean seriously... with only one analog stick you're gonna be screwed for getting any decent control mechanism surely?

TF2 is an awesome game but i really don't think it will work on PSP, and i don't think Valve would agree with you either otherwise they'd probably have done it already. You know how the PS3 version of TF2 is completely ignored by valve with no updates what so ever, i doubt they'll really care about a PSP version.

Still, could be a fun project eh?

Moreover, LTE is an ill-formed, "broken" branch of an ancient Irrlicht version. Why would you choose such an engine, and still ask here for support?
Anyway, this announcement is once again an example for an incomplete post concerning the official announcement rules. Hence it will be moved to beginner's forum if you cannot post any more details (including the required stuff such as development outline or some artworks etc which are under your copyrights).

Oh, and don't forget them trying to strip the zlib license from Irrlicht.

LTE is an independent 3rd party project. If you intend to use it, you can announce it and get support over there. Good luck!

[Actually, soddit, LTE is clearly Off Topic - there's no point in waiting to move this, since it makes as much sense as leaving an OGRE or CrystalSpace project announcement here]

Wow, alright, lots of flames to battle...

First, I'm sick of people complaining about the single analog stick on the PSP... On the PC, you only have one mouse, am I correct? That doesn't impede FPS games. If it's so bad, hard mod a second analog stick onto your PSP! People have done it before! And using a tried and true WSAD configuration on the shape buttons, this will work fine. It's worked very well in Quake Team Fortress PSP.

Also, I saw another post requesting help on an LTE project in the project announcements forum, so I just posted there. That guy received NO flames for that post, someone just PM'ed him about it and that was the end of it. I'm not going to release all of the stuff we have gathered here, I will, as I said before, fill you in on the details if you PM me. Yet again, that's what the other guy said, and he didn't get any complaints about that.

Either way, I think we'll finish a small beta once we get another coder or two on board and submit it to Valve. At the least, it would get them moving on a PSP port... And if not, yes, it could be a fun project.

I suppose yes you could do a WASD approach with the face buttons, might feel a bit weird being the opposite way round to what people are used to...

But another thing is that the PSP analog stick is pretty damned terrible... It's really not as responsive as it needs to be for any sort of accurate aiming.

Obviously hard modding a 2nd analog stick onto your PSP isn't going to be a good solution for a lot of people who aren't electricians and don't want to bork their PSP and void its warranty

Thanks, got that one too.

It's nothing personal: the issue is with LTE, not with you. But it is - according to the LTE devs - a 3rd party library, and thus Off Topic for an Irrlicht project announcement.

Best of luck.

I'm pretty sure that John Romero is free, although I hear he's living in the Los Angeles subway now. On quiet nights, you can hear him roaming the darker tunnels, croaking "Headshot! Frag! I invented this!"
