really read the doc at blender.org, you can download or check online. Online is more up to date.
there's no other way around blender. That or that you're experienced with many 3d packages and can just trial and error. Is what i did. But sounds the docs is more clever way...
anyway, is pretty easy once you've read it or guessed it :
you have a mesh, I guess
space bar, add armature.
Now you automatically start in an extrude bone mode. Can continue -clicking to put the end of the bone. and so on. Or you go out to object mode (tab key) (as adding armature you get into edit mode automatically) , then go back to edit mode, click on a bone termination, hit e(is extrude , always, in blender) so you grow a bone in the chain. Click to set the place of ending joint of the bone. etc.
you end up with an armature fully done.
then in object mode, You click the mesh to select it, shift click the armature, hit ctrl p- This makes the armature parent of the mesh. I'd advice you choose "heat" weight asignment, for a newbie. It works quite well auto asigning weights if u did position well in center of arms, etc, the bones.
That explanation is no way to go. Just seek for a good tut and study it.
no time to watch if is any good, but hava a look at this video:
