Help with a few things

Post by S7 »

Hello, I'm a student at a High Scool working with a group on a Racing Game for Finals.

I have a Frame and Regular FPS Camera set up but have a few problems I'd like to ask you all.

1: I have an FPS Camera like stated above but I want a Camera to be fixed behind the car like a Third Person Camera. How would I go about doing that? The Car is a Node in the scene.

2: I Have a basic controller (Forwards and Backwards hehe), but I'd like know how I could set up the A and D keys to Rotate and Continue in the direction of rotation. Like a real car. (And maybe Accelaration if could)

3: And lastly I have yet to implement Physics such as Gravity, Friction, Collision Detecting, etc. I've worked off the Irrlicht Tutorials (Which are a great help) but I noticed that the Collision detecting in that is on;y applied to the Camera e.g. the Player.

I appreciate any help you can provide. I can supply the Code Monday, if necessary since all my data is stored on the School network.

Thank You all

1. you can make the cam child of the car node at an Z offset, for behind.

2.ONce you have a turning angle(steering is turned to x degrees).
just had a rotation amount to your car every frame. Don't forget to make it time lapse depandant. to make smooth, even movement.

3. Take a look at JP wrapper IrrPhys.
http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2 ... t=irrnewt
or search for Irrnewt.

Good luck,
regards,
Robert

1. I got the camera to sorta the way I want but I gotta tweak it a bit still.

2. I'm still haveing trouble with that. Can you explain this part more?

3. Thanks a bunch for that link, it'll help a ton. (Means I don't have to write it myself hehe)

Also something new,

I've had my graphics team make a ragtag map of a town for Finals. Textures on that try to load but can't. The jpg files are in the directory with the 3ds but don't load and it takes like 30mins to finally get it to come up.

1. Is there a way to bypass the Textures?

2.How do I fix it so it will just load the textures with the 3ds file, so I don't need to use the jpg files?

Thanks ahead of time,

Studio7
