Anyone interested in a shadowrun game in .Net

Post by grunt »

Is anyone interested in a shadowrun game in .net? Basically this will be to have fun, and show off the engine features with the .net framework. I have created a pretty extensive design doc, and am going to add more to it as time goes. AFAIK FASA, the company that owned the title, went defunct and no longer owns the copyright, so we are free to do whatever.

I currently have the basic game skeleton up with bsp rendering, and am working on the main menu gui as we speak. As far as my experience goes, I can program vb .net, and design levels. Here is a map i designed for rtcw years ago:

Since there is no "attach" feature on these boards, just give my your e-mail addy, and I will send it to you.

actually, i just found out that htey are owned by topps, ya know the baseball card company. The logo and stuff if free for non-commercial use, but otherwise licensing fees occur.

Is anybody interested in developing a team to create a .net irrlicht game?

im not, but if you want to find team members, post info like this:

- game concept and genre
- game story
- game technology (what you want to use)
- game features
- licensing
- if team members get payed or not (and how they get payed)
- what team members you need (programmers, level designers, etc...)
- any specific time range/dead line

FanPRO owns Shadowrun

When FASA decided to shutdown they did it so allthe writers would get their money (They made sure that their name wasnt remembered as a bunch of jerks).
When they did that M$ had lost the rights to all the games, however 6 months later they made deals to buy the Computer game part of Mechwarrior.
FANPRO which is run by some ex FASA and independant people bought Shadowrun and i think Earthdawn, I know there are atleast 3 companies controlling the various games anyway. I might be wrong about FANPRO and Earthdawn but I know earthdawn was bought.

FANPRO definately owns most of the old FASA stuff though, best to ask them.

why not just come up with an own game idea instead of using one from other people? thats really a shame!!

I'd love to see a good Shadowrun game! If the copyright would be free, it would be awesome... :D

I'd love to help out (I can model relativley well - I'll give examples if needed - and know C# and irrlicht.NET (again, I can give examples if needed). I want to help out with a .NET project, however, as much as I like the shadowrun universe, I think it'd be better (and cause fewer liscencing issues) if you just made an original game (even if the setting IS highly derivitive).

-_________- Just my two cents. Drop me a line: xycos@u.washington.edu.

Shadowrun online

Post by Dooley »

awakenedmmo.org is a group of developers who have permission from Microsoft and have been developing an Ogre based MMO Shadowrun.

I would like to create a Shadowrun game, but as a Facebook module that would pit people in teams.

I'm currently researching different methods of implementing the gameplay efficiently (it's a lot of systems to manage).

I'm capable of everything except the complex coding as my code style is borne of scripting, meaning I'm not really that elegant.
By everything I mean I can model, texture, produce sounds and music, and even animate.
Why do I develop web pages?

Because I went to game design school and saw what kind of people are in the industry. That and I can't be fired when I'm self-employed.

SO! Who wants to make a Shadowrun game for Facebook?
Seriously.

Edit: omigod! I just noticed the date on the post.
Technical isn't Complicated.

Sure, a bit old that original post, but thanks for that link to the MMO!
