A Newbie MMORPG

Post by tukaram »

Hi Folks,
My very first shot at irrlicht mmorpg
http://69.50.226.18/tukaram.zip

This is a very very very very early prototype,
just to test the network and animation..
This might be awful to your taste, consider yourself warned.

The sample will connect to my server at udp port 7878
a primitive chat is working ( buttons are just there for display)
point and click and WAD for movement
use mouse right button for rotation / middle mouse for zoom
press esc to exit system.

The logo's displayed are just googled randomly..

hmmm looks like I may need to adjust or at least disable the server side detection if someone is overspeeding like using a cheat engine.

Actually, building security systems in the core permit to optimize them and catch some strange bugs real early. It's a good practice, as far as I've seen.

Dorth is right, I've been in the game industry for sometime
and knows that online games if not properly secured from
the beginning will leads to all sorts of hacking in the end.

Anyway I adjusted the settings and should not have
a "Connection Lost" title..

well, maybe i'm wrong, but i like make my game work, then make security...
i mean, the kicks and the others...
its ok, if you do that the server doesn't allow to go fast (dropping back, or slowing down the character), but kicking the client is a bit too hars i think.
after all, it's just in a very early stage...

but its just me xD

I like how Atlantica Online does it, actually. If you are found to be in a "wrong" position by a big enough offset, you get ported back to where you "belong", with the whole reloading. They could just port you. But then there's no real deterrent. Then again, the one that is innocent and will trigger it because of a system lag of sort will not be that incapacitated by it either.
