Hey I just thought I'd mention this cool library I just found, ASSIMP (Open Asset Import Library). It's basically a lib that imports various mesh (And other) file formats.
But the main thing I found interesting is that they support Irrmesh importing and even have a page dedicated to it on their website:

Ah very recently they added *.irr file loading also. This can prove very interesting as it means irredit can be used for more than just Irrlicht applications easily. Hmmm...
Yes a few formats like MD5 and maybe any .X files that Irrlicht has trouble loading could be useful. I see one or two other formats that may prove useful also, but I've yet to test how far this thing actually supports these formats (If it imports animations etc correctly).
