Hi,
Your character look definitively look like Sonic the Hedgehog. I've searched a little on Porcupines and they have fur with hidden quills that rise when they are attacked. They are slow and bigger than a hedgehog with a longer tail. A hedgehog is smaller, form a ball and roll on himself to attack. (As you could see in Sonic the hedgehog)
I could model that drawing very easy. If you want that model, that should be easy. I'll try to find some extra time. I'm not an animator, you would have to find someone to animate and rig it.
EDIT:
Here, I've done a quick sketch very fast, for fun. A Sonic relative I could say, with 2 axes (similar on your first drawing). "ready for battle"
AS a note. The axes look too small to my taste. What kind of era and technology your character will share? Very futuristic (Almost fitted like "Star Trek - Borg race" or very RPG like "Lord or the ring"?

Thanks for your help, the time takes place can actually be considered the time we live in now, age of guns and such, I dunno why, but medieval themes are just... meh to me.
But if you DO model them, please note realism is NOT really preferred, I wish to keep a cartoony interface, such as Happy Tree Friends, only a little more anthro and uh, 3D.

Ok. Here a start.
Am I on the right track? The character is VERY WIP. It's really not completed. Just that you have a peek if it's the kind of characters you seek. If not, then we'll go back on the drawing board and I'll propose some other sketches.

To be honest...
That ain't bad at all, even for a WIP! And don't worry for rigging, I'm sure I can do that on my own.
I don't know if it's too late to fix one thing or not, but can you resize the head slightly bigger? That's all that seems out of order, don't worry though, you don't have to.

No problem. The hands are not even modeled yet. Easy to fix. From your comment seem that I'm near of what you need. Good.
I was not sure about your term anthro. So I checked that on the internet. Saw some picture from the TV show you mentionned (Happy Tree Friends, very cute characters, but seem very bloody. Extreme constrast)
Seeing that gave me inspiration to draw that "war bunny". I'm kinda bound to try to put realism in my things. That was a nice exercise to put only what was needed (no extra details. Gah!) But the arms are more realistic that the cartoon I've seen. (muscle silouhette is visible)

Started to separate parts with ID, so it will be easier to set UV and texture later.
Here is a pic of the current character. Less that 5K triangles for now.
Here is the mesh. I put it in 3DS and OBJ format. Can you check if the scale is ok for your project? Would be bad if you have to scale it later.
I used 72 units for the max height of the character. (Same that I use if I'm modeling a character for HL2)

Hm, so far everything's good. I actually recommend that size as it would make animating a lot easier, instead of having a REALLY small model and trying to rig such a puny thing would be chaotic.
And the little war bunny is a rather interesting image there. You are well experienced in both the modeling and concept drawing it seems. A little muscle show ain't gonna kill anyone.
