So it is nonsense to compare the 9GB of an XBox DVD with the 50GB of a PS3 BluRay.
To clarify, developers can use a single-layer or dual-layer Blu-ray disc which is 25 GB and 50 GB, respectively. Resistance 2 made use of ~19 GB of a single-layer while Killzone 2 allegedly uses 40 GB of a dual-layer. The list goes on, but you can reseach more if you want to.

At any rate, if I recall correctly, a Microsoft exclusive game called Lost Odyssey came out some time ago and required 3 or 4 dual-layer DVD discs to hold everything. This raises the cost for the developer to produce one unit and possibly the cost that the end-user must pay. Not to mention the inconvenience. In the end, all of that could have fit on to one dual-layer blu-ray.

To simply cast aside the difference in discs is senseless. It certainly matters.

But many games on the ps3 have already used the 25GB.
Plus 360 games starting to use more than 1 DVD
(Forza Motorsport 3 2 disk, Blue Dragon 3 disks, Lost Odyssey 4 disks)

If we are talking about 'Gaming consoles' the past has taught us that
its whats on the discs that sells the console not how much data can be stored on them.
I know the only reason I got the 360 is for Forza and Ninja Gaiden II.
Oh and the price played a large part too.
