Looking for Team for FPS Hack and Slash

Post by Alpha Omega »

I am currently looking to assemble a team to build an online deathmatch Hack and Slash. I have been using Irrlicht for some time now, but I am not an expert still learning new things everyday. This is a proposal for anyone that is looking to jump into a project and contribute unique ideas. This is a project for fun and learning, I will not be paying anyone for any services that are contributed. Any expenses that need to be made for the project to move forward I will take care of though, such as servers, website and so worth.

Ok now lets talk about what exactly is an online hack and slash? Well combine game mechanics of Left for Dead with an RTS flavor. This game will start out as an online death match, however I would like to see the project move in the direction towards a strong co-op style of play. The game setting will be "middle ages" around the bronze age for those historians on here. Weapons will be swords, shields, spears etc.

Now what will stick out compared to other projects out there? First it will be powered by Irrlicht! Secondly, I want game mechanics introduced into the game to be distinct and unique. We will be making a new game style here. Combining elements off MMO's to things from online demo's and even RTS and strategy games.

I would encourage anyone interested to not feel hestitated to express interest. Everyone's views will be taken into account, I will not dictate this project and you will not be expected to produce or leave type situation.

Now to sum up with the features that I would like to see this project attain.

- Online ASAP and FREE!!!

- Diverse set of Weaponry but limited enough to allow strategy (THINK RTS)

- Large Maps (End stage hopefully :D )

- Deliver a new type of PvP. (Fusion of Co-op, RTS and Demo)

- Fun Factor (We want this to be fun and not work)

** How will this project communicate?
Depending on interest I would like to get a site up with forums. I have server space at my school. All we need is to buy the URL. Secondly we will have a TS or Ventrilo for communication. Any suggestions in this would be appreciated.

Some background on me -

I am a chemical engineering student and I put time in whenever I can. I am busy but I get something done every week. Anyone that decides to contribute will be recognized and the project will remain open source to everyone. There will be no permission restrictions, if your in you will have access to all material.

You might want to change that bit since they do not overlap at any point (at best, you got the roman empire in between)

This is why I did not major in History. Hopefully you got what I meant.

However in rebutal I did not specify it was exactly The Middle Ages but a quoted reference in time in quotes to express ambiguity.

This is a video of the basic equipment management set up so far for the game.

The crazy house music was the only music I had on my comp when I made this video. It is kind of catchy.

It looks like i am having trouble jumping onto the boxes but the game is frame dependent and my screen capture was lagging me down. :( Hopefully to get it time dependent soon.

Having some problems with windows xp users link for link below to help test. Thank you.
