[Team Needed] - Scifi MOG

Post by Jutsuo »

I have been thinking about trying to start a Science Fiction game for awhile. I am wanting to start it now, but the issuse comes to coding. I can not code, I attempted before looking for a team, but I know that I can make the models. I am wanting to start the project for fun so there would be no pay and it would most likely end up open source, but then again that can be a no.

The game I am thinking about will be all talked over with anyone whom decides they wish to join. I will accept more 3d artists, story writers, texture artists, and coders. This will be my first project working on, but like I said it is for fun.

The concept:

I am wanting to create a first person shooter/rpg. This being said I am wanting to make a MORPG that has the camera aspect and usage of guns like a first person shooter but keep all the roleplaying aspects of most games like Everquest, World of Warcraft.
This includes farming monsters, gathering materials, and crafting.. Etc.
I am wanting to make a game where the players will run the world the most. Have certain events that change the world with certain paths taken.

Player shops, player buildings, player owned land. I am wanting something that feels alive and vibrant. Also, Realism in the enviroment and through play. This being said and the title saying science fiction doesnt mean I am saying two thigns at once. Realism in gravity, wind, enviromental detail and interaction, player interaction with each other.

The game will have Range and Melee, so combat is realtime.

Also, there will be different planets for exploration, space travel but not with restrictions so it would be possible to get lost and die even. Player freedom is important in any game. Teleportation between planets by simple devices or traveling with ships.

The game will not be one of those run out and kill a mob and you can buy armor... Example: Get gun- Get ammo(10 Dollars for 50) - 5 to 7 shots to kill one mob - Gain Item from mob(1.1 Dollar gain.)....>This is so that the players will need to gather and also have the possibility of losing money. I would like to make it to where players dont only Farm for money, they have a chance to lose money by only farming. I believe this will make the world more alive and seem more awake.

If anymore information is needed please post, I will attempt.

-3D
-FPS/RPG
-Multiplayer-Online
-Sciencefiction
-Free Two Play - Perhaps a Item Shop to help keep it that way.
-ALL FOR FUN AND A LEARNING EXPERIENCE.

Small Example of what I can model.

Enviroment Ideas

Planet Tous:

This is a planet the lives on a energy stone known as the Tousis Stone. The material lies in the middle of the planet and spreads upwards, it also harnesses the power of unlocking the minds full potential. The ground resembles red sand in appearance and texture. THere are massive land masses of Desert, Plains, Mountains, and Tropical lands. The land its self is beautiful, the sun shines the brillance of the Tousis Stone off of the ground and into the air creating a hue of reds and oranges.
Whilest walking around the world you will notice many strange creatures. Like the Gazat, a giant thorny lizard that lives off of the blood of other creatures that it kills, or the Fenk, a fox that is known for its heart and intelligence, this creature will assist the people of Tous but will attack those that are unknown.
The people of Tous are known for there skin, which is the color of white sand and appears very rough and grainy. They live in the sand, by digging wholes into Tous's top layer of sand and using a device called a Sanrill to keep them safe while they rest. The are faster and have a very high endurance compared to the Human race of Tera. The also survive off by hunting animals and preparing the meat and hides for food and cloths.

Tousis Stone:(still working all of this out, but here is the basic concept.)

This stone only exists on Tous and can ony be gathered by the Tousians themselves, or those they have let learn their cultural ritual for the extraction of the stone. Also, to use the stone the Tousians are the only ones who have figured out how to link the stone to anothers mind and active its true power. The stone will allow most to tap into thier mind more then natural, this could allow the user of the stone to gain intellectual insight or merely allow them the capacity to understand a certain topic, depending how the Tousians have the stone prepared.

This seems like a rather...large...project for a first time. Most of it sounds pretty good, but I've just started my own first project. It's a lot smaller -- a 2D game engine, to put it shortly -- but I think it might still require quite a bit of time and coding before I get everything working well enough.

Why don't you start smaller? Cutting out the MMO aspect alone would make this minuscule compared to what you're wanting to do now.

Understand

Post by Jutsuo »

I understand what you are saying, but being this a first project and I am not expecting everyone to join in and know everything, it would be something that would get broke into parts. So essentially, its a bunch of small projects. The Engine, The Inventory, The Player, The Monsters, and etc...
So in the end of that evaluation your small project and my large project, break down into small projects together or equal size, just mine has more.

Thanks for the consideration though, I understand how it could be better, but less is gained.. And I am not looking to profit from this but in a intellectual way, improve your mind, improve your life.

Time is not an issuse also, it is not something I would want done quickly or even within 10-15 years, I would like to see it as something I and the team of whomever and others who will jump in along the way do until the enjoyment in it is gone. A past time if you will.

The learning is the most important and say someone joins, gets bored and moves onto another project and make money, I would be proud to have been along the ride with them.

Thanks again. Please continue to post.

rather starting a new project from 0 why dont u join to other teams?
lot of ppl looking for 3D artists (like >>me<<), u could easily find a project what u like.
and so if u have ideas, u can put it into that project, coz at garage game makers, its pretty flexible.

I agree with B@z. Its much easier to first join another team and gather some experience, than start of on first time project on your own. I did that too, and then started work on my own project with my own team of 6.

Ideal

Post by Jutsuo »

Would love to join a team, would be simpler, just havent found a team working on anything like this. I have offered to assist with Peragro, which I probally could but they are still trying to decid and plan out when they are going to make a basic release of the game, and its honestly taking too long for that, and then Gekkeiju but I dont think the owner wants much help, tell me about your projects.

Would you like to work together on a game? I can code and do some decent modelling. I code in vb.net and c#. Was thinking of something medieval.
