Viz, try Xeffects.
It's not built in with Irrlicht (which is a damn shame) but you can get some wonderful shadows with it.
Actually, now that I've been playing with XEffects I realized that actually Irrlicht is the best free 3D engine there is, period. Remember what I said about it not being as powerful as Ogre3D ? Give me the assets from Ogre's demos and I'll recreate most (if not all) of them in Irrlicht without any problems.
Coupled with that there is IrrEdit which makes the programmer (or level designer)'s life so much easier.
So yeah, now I can say with all the confidence in the world Irrlicht>Ogre3D.
