How much do a modeler charge to model a city?

Post by Lil Margin »

Hey all,
How much would a 3d modeler charge for a city as big as Willemstad(look it up on Google maps) ?
in other words to rebuild the map in 3d...
Thanks in advanced.

You can have for less than 500$ a city depend on many factor (reusing mesh ? mesh created specialy for you or a bought on a pack).

ok.
Details :
same Island shape as the original
same road locations as the original
same structure as the original(for example if theres a large amount of woods somewhere on the island it will be also modeled in the same place)

And things like houses, etc can be made up(doesnt have to be thesame as the island)
How much will it cost?

hmmm, thats a pretty big island. I could do it but it'd be pretty expensive, might I suggest an alternative such as modeling a large portion of it, and blocking of certain parts that dont pertain to the gameplay through some means (road work, natural disaster, broken bridge like in gta, or even a system that tells you your going too far out of the gameplay region. The reason I say all this is because that island would probably be in the 1,000s if not in the 10,000's, and a lot of it seems like it could be wasted money if there is a cheaper but just as effective alternative.

If your still looking for a price I can still quote it, but it might take a day or so to really look through the map and see approx. how much work there is.

well i took a look at the map, and I made a small grid to give you an idea of a price and so that you can sort of look at what sections you want to look into having made. the green spots are the excessively detailed parts. those are the important parts but they also are a lot more detailed. The more spots you want made the cheaper I can do them for because I can reuse parts on other parts. the green will probably be about 2x the price of the other parts. The regular blocks will start at about $25 and the green will go for about $50 a piece. every five you choose of the regular blocks the price per block will go down $2 all the way down to $25 per block, and the green ones go down $5 per 5 you choose all the way down to $25. I do only accept payments thru milestones on a weekly basis.
