Using the new vertex manipulator for texture splatting?

Post by 3DModelerMan »

Is it possible to do that with the new vertex manipulator? Or what other way could I do software texture splatting.
That would be illogical captain...

You could always edit the actual texture itself.

The vertex manipulator can only apply the same manipulations to all vertices. Of course you can give it parameters, but probably not soemthing in this situation.

If you want to do that without shaders you can use EMT_TRANSPARENT_VERTEX_ALPHA material. You need to draw polygon one time for each texture you blend. Let say you have square tile which have three textures in three corners. First set texture 1 to material and set vertices to proper alpha. Call draw on that square. Next set texture 2, change vertex alpha and draw. Repeat for texture 3. You have just blended 3 textures on your tile.

This method might be even faster than shaders since it use fixed pipeline rendering and have benefit of all standard features like fog and lighting which could be changed in real time.
