Building a new gaming rig, any game recommendations?
Hi all. I'm building a new mid-range gaming rig and was wondering if anyone could recommend some games. Obviously I've gotta try Crysis, but besides that, does anyone have any recommendations? I'm afraid that I've been outside of the PC gaming loop for a while
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl(2007)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky(2008) (I don't recommend this one)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Prypiat(2009)
Risen(2009)
Metro 2033(2010)

Step back! I have a void pointer, and I'm not afraid to use it!

If you like RPG's and/or shooters, id definitely recommend:
Mass Effect 2
I absolutely love that game, I have a high-end rig and the graphics look outstanding, and the game has a nice rich story line... at times it may have too much of a back-story though and hard to figure out what exactly is going on hehe

What genre's do you like and/or want to play? There are lots of good games for each genre. I'm sure people can give great suggestions if they know what you are looking for.

As for some other genres:
4x: If you want an action-focused 4x game, I would recommend the Sword of the Stars series. It is a hybrid turn-based / real-time game, with turn-based empire building and real-time battles.

racing: I own Grid and I really enjoyed it.

ArmA 2 *IS* very awesome. But, in order to fully enjoy it, you have to integrate yourself into an active community that makes missions and plays them.ACE247 wrote:If like very realistic Shooters/Simulations, Checkout Arma 2. Its awesome.

I bought ARMA II the day it came out. I've regretted it since.
The concept is fun, but the game is ludicrously buggy. I gave up on it about three missions in. I called for helicopter extraction in a perfectly wide open field and waited for the chopper. It arrived, flew in circles over my head for five minutes, and then crashed into the adjacent forest and exploded. I tried this about five times from five different places before I just gave up.
The game is also ridiculously CPU costly. I have a 2.5 Ghz dual core (and a GTX 260 for a graphics card), and the dynamic mesh and texure loading lagged so much. I'd start getting shot at, look at where I was getting shot from, and everything would be blurry and blocky for a good 5 seconds while the engine sat on its ass and loaded the high-detail versions of the textures and models I was looking at. This is what really made the game unplayable for me - gameplay was just so choppy, even on my (fairly good) system.
If you're into tactical realism like me and are looking for something similar to ARMA, try Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. It's a squad-based tactical shooter like ARMA, but it doesn't forget it's a game. It's a lot of fun, has great combat dynamics, and has co-op support for the full campaign. Check it out - I've had more fun playing it than a lot of other games lately. There's a free demo for it.

HEY! Clear Sky is awesome! Have you ever played it?
**If you have... look here!**
Did you update the game to the newest version? The patch is on their website and fixes most (if not all!) Game-breaking bugs!
