Irrlicht Mascot [Submit Here]

Post by Adler1337 »

Since everyone decided it was time to make a thread like this, here it is. Submit your mascot art here. Your art can be concepts or full 3d models. Be sure to include as much information about it as you can(title, polycount, etc). Once we have enough 3d models I think we should start a poll.

As a reminder, and to be a bit more clearer:

We have two topics already for general discussion and inspiration for potential mascot ideas
http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=42194
http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=40366

So this topic is solely for ORIGINAL artwork or renders, and the best entries will be polled in a future competition.
Just like the monthly irrlicht Screenshots compo, except there is no deadline for entries (yet).

Multiple entries are probably allowed, not as many artists on the forums as programmers unfortunately.

And I dont think we need to worry about polycounts (etc) yet, this competition is only to decide on a mascot DESIGN, not actual MODELS.

We can create an army of usable models later

How about poly/texture size/animation limits? Since irrlicht is intended to run on about a bunch of old hardware computers and even mobile...
It would be nice to have at least some minimun specs..

I kinda thought that was the point of the other topics, to gauge generally what people wanted as a design. I wrote that they could be concepts as well as 3d models. The concepts can serve as inspiration but if this is just concepts and no 3d models then it's going to end up being another thread of people posting pictures they found on the Internet and half they people saying that's cool and the other half saying it should be something else. I don't think we need another thread of that. Probably the people posting concepts are the people who will end up making the models anyway so I don't see why we need an extra step.

I don't know for sure but I think whatever model gets the most votes should be made into multiple resolutions.
Low res: a couple hundred polys - for old hardware and mobile
Medium res: somewhere around 2 thousandish - for most projects
High res: a couple hundred thousand - for cutscenes/high quality renders/pics
I think we should make a nice render with the high res model an have it on the site somewhere.

Nice picture :)
I've slowly been working on a model. Unfortunately I have been sick the last couple of days plus i have a bunch of school work to do so not much has been done in that time. Hopefully I'll have something completed by next weekend.

I just realised nvidias mascot is actually an insect type girl (butterfly?), and not actually a fairy:

So an irrlicht fairy mascot is still a very serious option.
(just to clarify, this is not my entry, lol)

BTW nice drawing by your niece kazymjir, the only entry so far therefore the most likely winner already.
I dont think she would fancy your beer as a prize though, although you would probably "look after it" on her behalf if she should win.

Or was that your plan all along, you sneaky bugger

I'm getting the impression we don't have enough actual artists on this board :D

I'd like to give it a go, I have some experience with concept art and modelling, but mostly for buildings and maps, I kind of suck at doing (semi-)realistic characters :D

I have maybe one more day's worth of work, then I start texturing. My goal right now is to have something posted by either tuesday or wednesday, but due to my busy schedule it might take me a few more days.
