Oh I'm fairly sure I did

I think they hacked our cannons and tried to cut you off the internet.
And, do you know who was responsible for the security measures?
Oh yes, you're guessing right.
It was you.

Something you'd like to tell me sweetie? :P :D

Check this out:

I'm totally doing a pokemon game as a sideproject, just for shits and giggles :D (easy to find artwork, easy and clean graphics style, etc.)

This is the result after half a day of work, I based this off of a prototype I did in irrlicht a while back for a kid who asked me if I could make him a pokemon game
I thought it was a cool idea, so I accepted, but never finished it, so I'm rebooting the project

This is the irrlicht version:

Note: I'm not planning on releasing this, this is just to see if I could pull it off, we don't want any legal issues

pokemon is awesome shiit, good luck, if you make something playable i'll be sure to test it and give feedback if i can. I'll also force all my friends to play and test it!
(sadly, they won't have to be forced, since pokemon is pure awesome)
If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

I have to say that I'm rather ambitious though :D I'm going to include a lot of areas, but my map format is very simple, so I can create entire areas in a matter of a couple of hours in a completely polished state (this includes modelling various buildings, map geometry, etc.)
Also, since the style of the pokemon games goes very well with low-poly geometry, the modelling and texturing is very easy and does wonders for the overall performance ,which allows a lot of room for a layer of polish
eg. the screenshot provided was tonemapped using 64-bit HDR with a bloom pass, and SSAO (although this needs some tweaking)

I've been able to set up complete classes for tiled maps, characters (player + NPC), map loaders, and a couple of other stuff in under 12 hours, so I can say that development is going ridiculously fast

I want it to be a bit more serious than the current pokemon games though, I hate the new games (tested them out in an emulator) because they're so sugarcoated and aimed at a very young public, while the original concept of collecting + training introduced in the first generation (which wasn't targeted at a certain age group) is still awesome and appealing to a lot of serious gamers
I think this sugarcoating makes some people feel awkward while playing pokemon games, because it is something 'for kids' for a lot of people

I'll be sure to provide those interested with a beta once it's in that state, but I won't do any major public releases, I'm actually only ripping a couple of sprites though (building models + textures are all made from scratch), but the concept, name, etc. are trademarked and I don't want any legal issues

Haha, nice one, hadn't seen that one before :D

I should find someone who can make sprites or usable textures in this style

Pokemon could use a gritty reboot :D

@Radikalizm:
Looking quite good :) Reminds me of the old days.

Finally, summer vacation has started here :D :D :D
So, what's everyone going to do this summer?

For me, I am going to go get drunk with some friends first, and then I will come back to lurk on this forum. Posting random spams, telling people to go read tutorials when they ask questions, and then if I have time left, I might actually start to code a game or something  :o
