Project Cleansing (more trolls victims needed)
Listen up folks, for the last 4 years I have been working tirelessly designing a game that will not only transport you to a world of adventure and excitement but will also change your perception of the very world you live in!
I present...
Project Cleansing
A MMORPG set in our world 50 years from now.
Targetting:
* PC
* XBOX 360
* PS3
* Wii
and lower priority
* DS
* PSP
* iPhone
* Android
* Dreamcast
The engine will feature cutting edge DirectX 11 graphics as will as full physical simulation (even of hair).
The game will allow you to level in the following abilities:
* Intelligence (Magic, Crafting)
* Strength (Attack, Speed)
* Agility (Speed, technical combat)
* Thief
The game will have 4 playable classes:
* Aryan
The most popular class. Good intelligence and fighting ability. A well rounded race.
* Ebony
A strong class, the fastest sprinters and starts with +10 thief ability. Lower intelligence than the other races means Ebony class players often use violence rather than diplomacy.
* Asian
The best technical combat class. Smaller in size than the other classes.
* Arab
Naturally resistant to heat, the Arab class players can also travel without speed impediment through desert biomes. The second lowest intelligence of all classes.
--------------------------------------------------------
Coders
First job is to write a graphics framework to wrap irrlicht and native graphics drivers for all other targets (PS3, XBOX). Then we have to port irrlicht to DX11.
Artists
3D models for all races are required. These must be skinned and animated. Levels are generated completely procedurally (like minecraft but better graphics) so will not need to be modelled.
Please respond to this thread if you would like to apply for the privilege of working on this unique game.

This is somewhat of an obligated questions, do you have a good background in game programming? Did you do any previous projects? Anything major to show that you can actually pull off an MMORPG?drahdellort wrote:Listen up folks, for the last 4 years I have been working tirelessly designing a game that will not only transport you to a world of adventure and excitement but will also change your perception of the very world you live in!

Development for X360, PS3, Wii and PSP is restricted for licensed developers only, unless you can get a deal with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo to get your studio a license, which requires you to dish out tons of money for devkits, you won't be able to develop for these platformsTargetting:
* PC
* XBOX 360
* PS3

and lower priority
* DS
* PSP
* iPhone
* Android
* Dreamcast
Also, the dreamcast is a little outdated, don't you think?
I assume you have this all implemented together with irrlicht then?The engine will feature cutting edge DirectX 11 graphics as will as full physical simulation (even of hair).
How are you managing performance-wise with full physical hair-simulation?
Creating your graphics framework is least of your problems the hurdle of creating an entire MMORPG is much more massive than you could imagine

Also how are you going to procedurally generate your world? Given any thought about that yet? Minecraft uses a limited set of blocks, so that is rather simple (but still too complex for a lot of people), but a non-blocky style with 'better graphics' is going to be many magnitudes more complex
Your project is nothing different from all the other 'super-awesome OMG it's going to be the best game ever' MMORPG-ideas, I suggest you read the first 2 points of this pagePlease respond to this thread if you would like to apply for the privilege of working on this unique game.

I didn't even read through that since I assumed it'd be the standard MMORPG kind of classes, but you are right, that's some potentially offensive stuff right there (I mean seriously? Aryan? That's a direct nazism reference)XXChester wrote:Wow those are quite the prejudicious statements.drahdellort wrote: * Aryan

Yes we have a prototype hair physics simulation. We dont simulate every strand but about 12 different groups of hair and it works well. performance wise its fast.Radikalizm wrote:I assume you have this all implemented together with irrlicht then?The engine will feature cutting edge DirectX 11 graphics as will as full physical simulation (even of hair).

World generation prototype is working, it doesn't use blocks (or voxels) like the minecraft method, but a psuedo height-map/map generation technique which creates caves and other structures.Radikalizm wrote:Creating your graphics framework is least of your problems the hurdle of creating an entire MMORPG is much more massive than you could imagine

As for 'Creating a MMORPG is more massive than blah blah' I am fully aware of the scope of the project.

Ok then, what is your budget? How many people are you going to hire for this project? How long do you think development of this thing will take?
Where will you get the funding to host this thing once it's complete? Do you have money to hire people to babysit your game full-time once it's released?
Given any though about issues with your rather offensive race setup?
Also, you didn't answer my question about previous game development experience, I assume that if you're going to pull off an MMORPG that you have some massive projects already finished and released?

I am not hiring anybody, this game will be freeware (hopefully OSS) and maybe ad supported but for now that doesn't matter.Radikalizm wrote:Ok then, what is your budget? How many people are you going to hire for this project? How long do you think development of this thing will take?
Its a hobby. No, volunteers will help. Please elaborate.Radikalizm wrote: Where will you get the funding to host this thing once it's complete? Do you have money to hire people to babysit your game full-time once it's released?

I have spearheaded a few projects. An MMORPG doesn't necessarily have to be 1 million lines of code. Its just a genre.Radikalizm wrote: Also, you didn't answer my question about previous game development experience, I assume that if you're going to pull off an MMORPG that you have some massive projects already finished and released?

An MMORPG mostly takes years to develop, so you will need some motivated people to work on this, you can't assume that people will be working on your project doing what you want for all those years without getting any compensation for it
Another thing to think about is that these people will probably be very experienced programmers since beginner programmers would probably get lost within the first month because of the magnitude of the project, why would these experienced programmers who could be working on their own personal projects give up their time to work on your project without being paid?
A business plan for a project like this does matter, having an "it will all work out eventually"-attitude does not work well with these kind of projects since writing and managing an MMORPG costs tons of money (why do you think game studios dish out such huge amounts of money to build their MMORPGS? Just for fun?)
About your races, you are stereotyping and even insulting different ethnicities , even making references to nazism (Aryan != Caucasian), quite some people will get rather offended by this
And yes, an MMORPG is a genre, but not every genre requires the same amount of work, MMORPGs are the most massive and most complex games out there, and I've seen a lot of people exactly like you with these ambitious concepts for designing one, and barely any of them get to a state where they have at least something resembling a semi-playable prototype
Oh come on... I can't believe you've all taken the bait here!!
Not one of you remembers this thread from gamedev a few years ago?! It was LEGENDARY, lol!
Even if you never saw this thread of gamedev just read the original post again and think about it...
And to drahdellort: I got a good laugh out of your post AND you nailed a couple people, well played sir or madam!

If you could show me some peer reviewed papers on any of above then I will take heed. As It is merely your opinion and It seems you are not very experienced or knowledgeable (extrapolating from your previous messages) I will disregard your input.Radikalizm wrote: An MMORPG mostly takes years to develop, so you will need some motivated people to work on this, you can't assume that people will be working on your project doing what you want for all those years without getting any compensation for it

Firstly, yes it is quite edgy, no other games tend to mirror the real life classes like this. I think this will attract attention to the game.Radikalizm wrote: About your races, you are stereotyping and even insulting different ethnicities , even making references to nazism (Aryan != Caucasian), quite some people will get rather offended by this
Secondly, Aryan is not used in an offensive way. If you read the wikipedia article for 'Aryan race' it was first used to describe people from Europe.
Maybe you think that my classes stats are based on stereotypical representations of races. In reality I based them on actual average stats for world races. If they correlate it does not indicate racist intent.
I hope we can leave the whole racism rubbish alone now?
OK, I must admit I didn't even read through the post as I just saw that it had no real project info, so obvious candidate for deletion in this forum. Reading through it - yeah, nice troll. Go play offtopic now.

Wow, good to kow it was a troll thread, was getting quite worried there for a secaanderse wrote:Oh come on... I can't believe you've all taken the bait here!!

Wasn't a regular visitor of gamedev a couple of years ago, so haven't seen the thread over there
EDIT: We should have anti-trolling measures for serious forums (I don't mind people trolling in the off-topic forum), could get quite hard to distinguish people with actual ideas who need actual help and people trying to waste our time
