What's in a name?

Post by Radikalizm »

Ok, so I need some help on a nagging issue
I've been thinking about setting up a personal website where I can showcase my running projects and where I can vent my ideas/frustrations/whatever for a while now, and have started to look around for some good hosting plans
The issue however is that I don't know what to name my site; I was thinking of using my name, but since I have a name which is rather unpronounceable (and therefore hard to remember) by anyone who doesn't speak dutch that will be kind of difficult
Using my forum username is not an all too great option either, since I'm known by many different names on different fora

So, any suggestions on what to name my site? :D

Lol ... finding good names is never easy ;). I remember how I got to the name of my "Game Company", dustbin::games: I play in a rock band, and when we started we called it "dustbin". After a while the singer and the drummer wanted to change the name so we did that, but I did already register the "dustbin-online.de" domain, which lay unused for some time until I got the idea to split my web presence into "serious" stuff and "gaming stuff", i.e. I do now have to check two domains, "dustbin-online.de" and "bulletbyte.de".

I guess this doesn't really help you, but without any further input it's hard to do so.

You could use your real name if it's interesting looking, people might actually remember that. Well, at least I would :D

Maybe I could expand on the idea of using Rain- as a prefix, like in my engine, this would have some sort of a meaning to me and should be relatively simple to remember

I don't exactly find it interesting looking myself, but I'll consider your input though :D

Another idea: what I really like is to modify words by changing a few letters so that a new word is created, sometimes even with a meaning. Therapy?, one of my favorite band, pointed me to this. They have songs like "Screamager" and "Brainsaw" ;) on their "Troublegum" album. Maybe you can find something in that direction.

or you can create a name by taking some letters from your first name and some from your surename...
I did so: A is the 1st letter of my first name and Bu are the 1st two letters of my surename, so I called my site ABuSoft ;)

Simply take someting that you like or what you want your name to include and start playing. You said it may use "rain" from your "rain engine". Well then let`s start:

Real words:
----------------
rainbird
rainbow
rainfall
rainforest

Game of words:
----------------
rainbrain
brainwash
rainioactive (as radioactive)
membraine (as membrane)
serainade (as serenade)
raindea
rainfallen
rainderable (as renderable)
raingnorant
raingnorancy
rainikalizm (as radikalizm, kanibalizm etc.)
raingn (as reign)
rainolution (as revolution and solution etc.)
rainaction (as reaction)
brainrain (as brainstorm)
rainmax
rainfly
rainborn
raintegrant
rainburse (as reimburse)
rainvader
rainactant
rainactor
rainofpain
rainroad
raintegrated
rainjection
rainmark
rainmarkable
rainteger
rainnately
rainstitution
rainlander
raintake
raintegral
rain-patient
rainability
rainerspace
rainmate
rainquest
rainput
rainquiry
rainvalid
rainboard
raintimate
raincantation
raineffably
raineffective
rainfant
raingle
rainiekt
rainmainder
raintelect
raintelectual

Pfff... rainy (any) other suggestions? :D
