Windows 10

Post by Squarefox »

Hi,

I've programmed a game with Irrlicht. It runs under Windows 7 and 8, but crashes under Windows 10.
Does anyone have some experience with Irrlicht under Windows 10 and can help me?

Regards,
squarefox

Edit: The problem occurs only with DirectX9 renderer, not with OpenGl renderer.

Without any information about the crash there's not much we can do. The only Windows 10 tester I've heard of so far got the examples running to my knowledge. I've not installed it yet myself (and won't for the next weeks).

Windows 10:
(translated from the German heise news site)
Among the things W10 transmits (phones home) by default are the location of the device (if GPS / ... capable), web browser history, web favourits, websites that are currently open, apps that are installed from W store and data for the input-personification (?) - that counts in biometric data of pronounciation or typing patterns.

The error message says: Could not create DirectX 9 device.
The problem is, that this happened on a computer of my friend (I don't have Windows 10 also), so I cannot test it by myself.

Ah well, I guess we will have more people testing in the next days. I just can't risk updating right now because I need my system for my job - so can't risk breaking it currently.

@hendu: Yeah... sounds likt it takes some work to get rid of all the options that send data to MS. Another reason why I want to wait a while before updating (to tell the truth I don't even want to update - but with that free-update thing many people will update so I'm going to have to test my software on Windows 10 if I want or not).

You cannot disable many of them in the personal editions. Only the enterprise edition allows that.

Your friend might be missing the directX redistributable.

I'm running windows 10 and so far the only difference is a speed up.

Btw most of the data upload can be disabled with the pro version and a local account.

You forget some of the MS malware protection programs reset your hosts file. Windows Defender and some others.

Plus they can always add new domains in a patch.
