The End of Dyeus, open world first-person action game
Re: The End of Dyeus, open world first-person action game
First thing as it's probably really important for you right now - I just noticed your website is giving of SSL warnings today, so browsers refuse to go there. Thought I suppose you might know already.
I got some time yesterday for playing the game (my internet was suddenly down all day long).
I totally love the graphic style, it's all super atmospheric and just looks fun. And also the AI is very well done. Very individual behaviors and you can even make opposing groups attack each other. The difficulty level is ... high. I might have died once or twice or a hundred fifty or so.
In case you ever code a successor (or add some patches), some stuff would be nice to add:
- Auto run forward button (on 'r' usually in other games). Tends to be easy to implement, just move forward until any other movement key is pressed to cancel it and I really miss it when a game doesn't have that.
- Maybe allow moving while inventory is open? Thought I guess what I really want is a third weapon slot (for throwing things).
- Restore health over time in some way. Having used up my health potions too early, I fear I can't win my current game anymore. Last few hours of play I was mostly mowing grass hoping to get a bit health back.
- Map. I'm lost. Constantly.
2 bugs. First my move keys are asdf - not sure which keyboards have z there. Second I got one freeze when trying to instigate a fight between ants and desert soldiers. Thought I couldn't reproduce it again so far (and I usually die when trying...).
All in all - super, super impressive work you did there! And that vulture should get some extra credit for belonging in the top-10 evil computer game minions list :-)

Re: The End of Dyeus, open world first-person action game
Thank you for your feedback! Didn't know about the website issue, I'm not having it on my side. I'll look into it.
Yes, it is a difficult game hehe, probably the hardest I'll do (except for a sequel maybe?). Don't worry too much about potions, you can buy them for a pretty cheap price (10 gold) in some shops, and the best way to get your health back is to kill enemies anyway. You can also get some health back at fountains if you're in the red. You're still good to go, you can't really lock yourself! Try getting back to an easier area if you're having trouble.
Being stopped while in the inventory is by design, to prevent players from healing / changing equipment too easily during fights. I agree that two weapon slots is a bit low though, that's something I'd change in a sequel.
I don't understand your keyboard issue, do you mean that the game set your move keys to ASDF by default? That would be odd indeed. The game is supposed to set the move keys to WASD if the first language selected is English, or to ZQSD if it's french (I'm french, and we have AZERTY keyboards here).
Yes I'm pretty fond of my vultures! They're really nasty
Thanks again for the kind words, really glad that you enjoy the game!

Re: The End of Dyeus, open world first-person action game
Right, as you mentioned in PM, your link accidentally got switched to https. Sorry about that, I remember we auto-converted all http links in our database to https a few months ago when moving Irrlicht website to https. And that accidentally also converted all links in posts. And I used the link to your website from the last post about your game. Fixed now (but might take a while to show up correct thanks to caches).
And yeah, I meant ASDW (not F). So I guess it showed me info about french keyboard when starting the game (instead of english). Tiny bug ;-)
I got the freeze as well once more - this time when getting attacked by lots of wasps. Could maybe be about lots of enemies having sounds at the same time (guessing obviously, but I think both enemies where it happened have some kind of constant sound while running toward you).
I found out about being able to buy more potions by now and managed to get a bit further :-)
