Gonna take a break for another project

Post by thenewkgb »

Whoo-hoo! First off-topic post.

I've been delaying another game/project I desperately need to finish. It requires PDFs, publishers and learning VBA (Visual Basic in CorelDRAW) to organise page layout for a book. (I'm from the UK. Maybe there's a setting in the forum to stop spell-checking?)

So I keep returning to Infinite Line. I've called it Sum Up! and Griddy as well - I can't come up with a good name.

The video is here -> https://youtu.be/h1NHzyeRwsM

So I'll be dedicating some time, possibly months to do this. I'm not a well cookie so I'll be lucky to finish it in a few months. But I need to.

Irrlicht awaits!

Spell checking maybe in your browser? I don't think we have that in the foorrummm (see?).
Good luck with Sum Up Griddy! ;-)

Hello CuteAlien
Hello Noiecity

I may leave Infinite Line / SumUpGriddy until much later on when my hands are filthy with programming knowledge. One way is to release on a phone by using 2022 and cross platform C++ style, but I'm poop

One way to release my game was through a publisher, but the costs were too high. Each book with its own ISBN on Amazon would cost an additional £55 each time on top of the print cost. That plus I can't charge a lot for something someone can draw on paper in 1 minute themselves

I'll let Infinite Line die.

Hello

I know everyone faces problems, and it's easy to give up.

There may he hope. There's a chance of paying for multiple ISBNs. That way the cost is significantly reduced when making 10 books to keep the idea going. Sure, I can produce enough books - but opposing that idea is no-one buying it. The money on a large project might not sell.

I could spend more than I'm willing for a smaller project, less money and shorter timeframe on a handful of books (about 50 copies) and one ISBN and see if there's any interest to continue.

My programming lately has been to use SDL to save a BMP file with the question and answers in. It'll be easier to load these BMPs into my software to save time.

I noticed one thing... Keeping my focus on one thing. It was tempting to say "kill the idea and move onto Irrlicht"

Money is the only issue now. Forking out money for the books and Amazon costs.

I coded a program in SDL to output bitmap images, I added a loop to save multiple images so I can insert as many as I want into my book. Maybe a 25 page, 50 page, 100 page...

I've pretty much finished it. There's a game design aspect - what makes the best possible numbers to keep the game interesting. I have a "gaps" idea so different numbers are a certain distance apart.

Also do I include negative numbers in the question box? A bigger difference could make the game more challenging, more tedious, less fun.

One way is to guesstimate it. Just get it out there and see the response. Maybe some people want harder questions... I'd need a website to gather feedback (that's my understanding).

It looks like it took me two weeks. Not bad for an unwell, insane, dangerous, idiot monster

I had to realise that Infinite Line, the game I really liked, the game I thought would do really well...

I heard about this. A new developer will think their game is great / it's their baby / it is awesome, but it turns out it is a load of rubbish. No-one took interest, no-one understood it, no-one (even me) played it much.

So it would make sense to come back to Irrlicht. IL is one game I attempted that didn't work out.

The game is fine, if you translate it into Japanese and add a ranking over time, it is likely that you will find a larger audience and it will go viral, or that it will be copied and the copy will go viral haha

I've pretty much accepted the game isn't anything big and that's okay.

What I am worried about is not being able to stick to one (maybe two) projects. I'm having too many ideas/thoughts about what to work on.

One of them is use the world builder Alien made available in his repo and do what I mentioned before - add more functionality than IrrEdit so it's not just static meshes.

It is not a bad game, if the graphic interface was improved, you added a system of levels and a time per level overcome, it would have been a game "Improve your mathematical and deduction ability to exceed levels and test your ability with each level"
