Free hosting for irrlicht projects!

Post by Magnus »

So I was browsing projects. I found .tk sites with banner ads :x I have hosting enough to share so the first few people to post here with a good irrlicht project gets free hosting! (specs come later but atleast no banner ads + my area of expertese is web design, html php etc not c++ xD so I can help yall design the sites too!)

You can turn off the .TK ads. :-) But, they only host the domain... not webspace. Your offer sounds nice. But I don't think there will be many "good projects" around yet... But there are a few.

That is very kind of you to offer some of your space to the community here. Too bad I've already got plenty 8)

Speaking from experience... watch out for what people put on your site.

I had more than a few major incidents that lost me my hosts. One was a person who wanted space for a game, then ended up using it as an IRC warez bot.

The last straw was just a mistake where an older version of some software was installed for a project that had a vulnerability. The vulnerability got exploited and once again, a warez bot was set up.
Crud, how do I do this again?

I might need some hosting

Thanks!!

That would be realy great! I'm currently working on one project but I haven't spent much time looking for possible hosting.

One problem is that my project might get pretty big. With all models and textures, it can reach up to 100 megs (maybe less when zipped, but even now the small demo with 2 map scenes and one hero model is abount 10 megs). Also, I'm not sure when I'll be able to release anything worth releasing :) except some screenshots for now. Let me try to post one screen I just created...

Ok, now a couple of words about my project. It's an RPG game, but I haven't decided on the plot yet. One idea was to make a parody game called "Final Reality 24", or "First Fantasy XX" or something like that :D I'm hoping to create a console-like game with somewhat linear but hopefully entertaining scenario.

As for models/resources, I'm using CEP (community expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights; see http://nwncep.com/welcomecep/generalfaq_fi.htm). All content was made by different people and it is completely free, so I think there shouldn't be any legal issues.

My email is x4861@hotmail.com

How can extract contents from .hak files in this package and test it with Irrlicht?

Search the internet: there are tons of tools for neverwinter nights! all kinds of packers/copilers/editors. As for loading models to Irrlicht - you will have to write your own MDL model loader, since their file format is currently not supported by Irrlicht. The loader I wrote isn't Irrlicht-friendly because I didn't spend much time making it compatible with the whole system: just enough for my own needs.

sorry for the lack of updates. I secured my hosting again and set up a page

http://www.gamerzlite.com/dread/Irrhost/

I will start accepting applications soon 8) If anyone wants to help with this project feel free I need a good php coder for a contact script so people can send in applications

requirements for acceptance:

if it is a source code modification:

you must include source in a zip file or on thes ite for people to view -

you must be 13 or older

you must write a easy to use tutorial on how to implement this modification into the engine

if its a utility program:

when you ask for hosting you must include a download to a beta. we will evaluate if it's good enough (it doesnt take much to be. but just to make sure it isnt a play off the meshviewer or another program like that from someone else just to get free hosting.)

NO WAREZ, PORN, RASCISM, VIRUSES, ETC... :P

I only have 100mb of space now but I will work on gathering as many accounts as possible and I will post specs for each account.

you may use and extra space on your account for personal use but the irlicht stuff needs to be online at all times that the server is up which is most of time. (we will check randomly once a week.)

hmm anything else.. oh yeah each project will be allowed to have a message board of either phpbb or ipb ((hopefully I can scrounge up enough space for this thing to be a sucess))

anyone who wants to help post here..

this hosting is free, and has no ads. sorry if the rules are strict but until I can get reseller your going to be logging in directly on my account so I gotta be careful

          </table>
Magnus,

Take this code and google for a copy of FormMail.cgi...
put FormMail.cgi into your cgi-bin directory...

replace "your@email.com" with your email...

Add a few checkboxes and stuff... (ie; Check here if you are over 13)

Note: Any name/value you send the formMail script, will be put into the email...
(including hidden name/values)

This will get you up and running...

No use for php here unless you want to do a database...

As an experienced web application developer, I would suggest the above example. You cant count on the mail() function being supported on all servers (req. sendmail, qmail) although a simple test can verify it works.

Here is a simple tutorial on PHP email contact forms.
http://www.thesitewizard.com/archive/feedbackphp.shtml

BTW, The example above does not require and CGI knowledge... It is a well tested widely used, free to use, script for making simple email forms fast.

And as far as CGI, it is just a C, Perl, Bash,or some other script that prints to stdout.
