Books or material on computer graphics
Hi,
I used Irrlicht for my graduate project last year and it was a very pleasant experience in terms of development speed and ease.
Right now, I would like to refine my knowledge on computer graphics studying closely with the engine, but I need good, up-to-date references. On my local library I can find Foley/Van Dam and Hearn/Baker. Is there any good ebook on computer graphics (and possibly game architecture) I can download, or maybe good online tutorials covering these topics in detail? Or shpuld I stick with Van Dam/Foley?

are you joking?
just ask google about "free game design" or something.
try this for starters... http://www.gamedev.net/

boorishid@hotmail.com i have an ebook on genral 3d graphics coding wi would be more than happy to send you
erm, sharing resources isn't exactly the same thing as writing someone's code for them.
flipcode (http://www.flipcode.com) has some useful tutorials though not as many as gamedev.net
If your into OpenGL, NeHe is invaluable (nehe.gamdev.net) (I think)

You do a lot of programming? Really? I try to get some in, but the debugging keeps me pretty busy.

Hi, thanks a lot. The point is, I know about the tutorials on the net and everything... what I wanted was a general reference to computer graphics that would cover most of the core topics. That´s the reason I mentioned the Van Dam book. The problem is, I feel that book might be a little outdated, so I was asking for an opinion about sticking to this text as general reference or using another (and if anyone knew of another good reference that was available on the net, I would be thankful). I didn´t ask for game development tutorials...
And thanks a lot, BoorishId, what you mentions sounds a lot like what I want, I´ll e-mail you later, when I´m not at work.

I like Core Techniques and Algorithms in Game Programming. Andre LaMoth's books are also good as general references. Unfortunately none of those are freely available online and I don't know of any that are. There are lots of tutorials on the net but I don't know of any general reference texts that are (doesn't mean there aren't any)
EDit: Oh, LaMothe. Tricks of the Windows Game Programming Guru came with a couple "books" on it. They were fairly short, but claimed to be general 3D reference. If you give me an email I can send them to you.

I've got LaMothe's next one- "Tricks of the 3D Game Programming Gurus", but to tell the truth like most of my paper library I've hardly touched it, but it looks like a good book!
It weighs in at about 1500 pages and goes through the creation of a (pretty slow) realtime 3d engine from scratch, using all the tricks and maths you'll ever need... but I've decided there's only so much stuff you can learn in one lifetime, and I'll get back to it when I've finsihed reading google!
oh, and I dunno if this is against the rules but I did @find 3 of LaMothe's books in an infamous public ebook channel on irc, so if you look hard enough its free (though a 57mb download!).

really good tutorials are on www.ultimategameprogramming.com
its newer, but it explains everything on opengl and directx from drawing a triangle, to getting a window to parallax mapping and HDR

wow. cool site. I didn't know about that one
